TEMPE, Ariz. - A phenomenal perfect game for Katie Burkhart and 20 runs for the Sun Devils highlighted opening day of the Littlewood Classic Friday as ASU topped Buffalo 12-3 and Illinois State 8-0, both in five innings Friday night. The Sun Devils are now 13-1 overall as they set to face two more opponents tomorrow as the Littlewood Classic rolls on.

 

In game one, Megan Elliott pitched the complete game against the Bulls, allowing only three hits and two earned runs on the outing while striking out seven on the night. On offense, the Sun Devils tore it open in the first, scoring seven before tacking on three in the second and two in the first. Leading the offense for ASU were Lesley Rogers, Katie Crabb, Mindy Cowles and Rhiannon Baca as they all drove in two RBI apiece in the game wrapping it in five with a final of 12-3.

 

In game two, it was all Katie Burkhart as she struck out 13 of the 15 outs for the Redbirds en route to her second career perfect game. On offense Lesley Rogers led the attack again hitting in the nine spot going 1-for-2 with two runs scored and two RBI as the Sun Devils wrapped it early in the nightcap as well, shutting down Illinois State 8-0 in five innings.

 

The Sun Devils will return to action tomorrow for day two of the Littlewood Classic as they take on the Iowa Hawkeyes and Radford Highlanders at 3:30 and 5:30 p.m. in Tempe at Farrington Stadium.
