TEMPE, Ariz. - In need of a victory to snap a streak of four losses in a row, the No. 18 Arizona State University water polo team got just that as the Sun Devils defeated the Red Foxes of Marist, 11-1, at the Daktronics Gaucho Invitational in Santa Barbara, Calif., Saturday. The win moved the Sun Devils' record to 2-5 on the season.

ASU jumped out to an early lead as it netted a trio of goals in the first quarter before opening the game up to a 7-1 halftime lead. In the second half, it was more of the same as the Sun Devils added two goals in each of the final stanzas to close the game with a final score of 11-1.

Overall, Ashley Bower (So., Bondi Beach, Australia) continued her streak of scoring as she tallied on four occasions Saturday, giving her nine goals in three games in the tournament. For the year, Bower has totaled a team-high 13 goals. Katie Hedley (So., Lake Forest, Calif.) and Tessa Wyborny (Jr., Walnut Creek, Calif.) each added two goals to the Sun Devil stat sheet while Kim Buck (Fr., Lisle, Ill.), Shelby Slay (Jr., Baytown, Texas) and Kimberlee Stevens (Jr., Lodi, Calif.) each added solo tallies. On the defensive end, Jennifer Sanderson (Sr., Walnut Creek, Calif.) recorded eight saves.

Action at the invitational concludes Sunday with a pair of games for ASU. In the opener, the Sun Devils will face conference rival Pacific. A victory would pit the Sun Devils against the winner of the Santa Clara-Cal State Northridge game to see who will place 17th in the event while a loss by ASU against Pacific would see the Sun Devils meet the loser of the SCU-CSUN game for 19th place.
