TEMPE, Ariz. - Two goals by Katie Leahy, one in each half, carried the 11th-ranked Arizona State soccer team (2-1) to a 3-2 win over BYU (1-3) Saturday evening at South Stadium in Provo, Utah. Leahy, a prolific scorer during her two years at the Community College of Rhode Island where she posted 94 goals, now leads the team with three goals. The Sun Devils are now 41-0 all-time when they score three or more goals. During a rain-filled first half, BYU's Jamie Rendich scored the first goal nine minutes into the game. But Leahy soon connected in the 19th minute tying the score at one goal apiece. Elizabeth Bogus, who hails from near by Sandy, Utah, collected the lose ball along the flank and crossed it to a breaking Leahy who tucked in the corner. In the 34th minute of action, Bogus put the Sun Devils up 2-1 when Brittany Cooper slid a pass from the midfield to Bogus who then went 1 v 1 with the goalkeeper, beating her as she netted the shot into the corner. The rain ceased in the second half and BYU's Natalie Nate hit the equalizer in the 51st minute as her shot went just over the fingertips of ASU goalkeeper Kelly Fitzgerald. However, the Devils wasted little time responding as just 54 seconds later, Leahy nailed the game-winner. Bogus collected the lose ball from a throw in and dished it to Leahy who dribbled past a BYU defender and again beat the BYU goalkeeper for the score. Up next, the Devils head back to Tempe and get ready to open their 2004 home campaign against second-ranked Notre Dame on Saturday, September 10 at 7:00 p.m.
