CORVALLIS, Ore. - Oregon State allowed a pair of second-half goals in a 2-0 loss to Arizona State in Pacific-10 women's soccer Sunday afternoon on Lorenz Field at Valley Stadium. OSU (6-7-1 overall, 0-1-1 Pacific-10) now goes on the road to play at UCLA on Friday at 7:30 p.m.
"Arizona State is a very good team," OSU head coach Steve Fennah said of the Sun Devils (11-1-0, 2-0-0), who are ranked ninth in the NCAA West Region. "I thought we played pretty well today. We had a couple of lapses that cost us goals, and we didn't make the most of some of our opportunities - that's been the story of our season."
ASU took the lead in the 58th minute. Holly Cohen's shot was knocked away by OSU goalkeeper Jerika Duran, but Antoinette Marjanovic rushed in to rebound the ball back into the net and make it 1-0.
In the 76th minute, the ball rolled loose to the left of the Beaver goal about 10 yards out and Stacey Tullock snuck the ball past Duran just inside the near post for a 2-0 lead.
OSU had an opportunity in the 28th minute when Ann Marie Fallow tried to corral the ball near ASU's left post, her shot missed wide left, however. The Beavers had another scoring chance go awry In the 53rd minute as Dante Lipfert's blast hit the crossbar, then Courtney Carter's follow shot was blocked.
"I can't be disappointed," Fennah said. "The kids have raised their level of play immensely in a year and we're being respected for that. Now the challenge is to keep them improving and raising the bar the rest of the year."
