TEMPE, Ariz. - The Arizona State women's gymnastics team posted its second highest road score of the season during a second place finish in the Pioneer Classic Saturday night in Denver, Colo. Host school and 15th-ranked University of Denver used a season high team score of 195.725 to overpower #17 ASU (194.350) and Air Force (190.825) before a crowd of 2,234 in Hamilton Gymnasium.
For the Sun Devils (12-3), Elizabeth Reid remained undefeated through four meets on the uneven bars with her winning mark of 9.9. The senior All-American ranks second nationally in the exercise and has yet to register a score below 9.9 in this season. Arizona State also got a 9.85, third place bar performance from junior Kelly Christensen-Cowley, but had to count a fall as part of its 48.350 team total.
ASU went on to score a 49.0 in balance beam competition - the second straight meet it has reached that plateau - with Sun Devils Elizabeth McNabb and Cassidy Vreeke tying for second place at 9.85. Vreeke's score established a new career high. McNabb also led the ASU contingent in the floor exercise by tying for fourth at 9.825, while Sun Devil junior Kristin Fanning scored a 9.8, the fourth consecutive meet she has been at that mark or higher. Meanwhile in vault competition senior Michelle Hess led all Arizona State performers by tying for second at 9.75.
In all-around action, Denver's Sachi Ena took top honors with a career best 39.150 and beat out teammate Jennifer Ebdon (38.925), who took first place in three individual events.
