TEMPE, Ariz. - The Arizona State women's soccer team dropped a close Pac-10 Conference game to 16th-ranked Stanford, 3-2, at the Sun Devil Soccer Stadium on Sunday afternoon.
Despite holding a 2-1 lead into the 72nd minute, the Sun Devils (8-5, 2-3 Pac-10) gave up two goals in a span of two minutes to fall behind 3-2. Even though ASU aggressively attacked the Cardinal goalkeeper in the final minutes, Stanford (11-3, 4-0) managed to hold on for the victory.
Stacey Tullock and Karine Inoue provided the scoring for the Devils, notching their 13th and fifth goals of the season, respectively. Tullock has now recorded at least one goal in nine games this year. On the defensive end, goalkeeper Erin Reinke had another solid game with five saves.
Stanford's Ronnie Fair (32nd minute) tallied the Cardinal's first goal off a direct free kick, while Kelly Adamson (72nd minute) and Kelsey Carlson (73rd minute) pulled Stanford to the win. Goalkeeper Carly Smolak recorded five saves.
The Sun Devils will step out of conference in their next home game against Colorado College, Friday at 7:00 p.m. at the Sun Devil Soccer Stadium.
