TEMPE, Ariz. - The Monsoon struck first delaying the Arizona State women's soccer game against 14th-ranked Brigham Young University. Once the players took the field it was a game with great chances by both sides and even better defense ultimately ending in a 3-2 overtime victory by the Cougars at the Sun Devil Soccer Stadium, Friday night.

Arizona State (0-1-0) opened the scoring with freshman Holly Cohen lofting a 15-yard shot over BYU goaltender Jennifer Waldon in the 2nd minute, the fastest goal scored in ASU history. The Cougars (1-0-0) came back in the 34th minute when Athelia Graham scored on a 25-yard blast that caught the top left corner of the goal.

In the second half, BYU senior Maren Hendershot added the go-ahead goal in the 57th minute when she received a cross from the right side from Sarah Higham and punched it in five-yards out.

In the 71st minute, ASU's Karine Inoue tagged the back left corner of the Cougar net on a break from 20-yards out. However, in overtime, BYU ended the game in the 100th minute on a Higham header from a right cross by Natalyn Orchard.

ASU had two scoring chances in the overtime period when striker Stacy Tullock broke through the defense to go one-on-one with Waldon, but fired the ball wide left. Only a minute later, Jennifer Peterson received a cross from Tullock behind the Cougar defense, but was stopped on another tough defensive play from Waldon.

The Sun Devils next head to Tucson to battle the Wildcats in an early Pac-10 match-up slated for Tuesday August 31st at 7:00 p.m.
