Women's Volleyball Completes Sweep of Oregon Schools

TEMPE, Ariz. -- Sun Devil outside hitter Amanda Burbridge tallied a match-high 23 kills to lead Arizona State to a 3-1 victory over Pac-10 opponent Oregon today in the Wells Fargo Arena. Games scores were 15-4, 2-15, 15-13, 15-13.

ASU improves to 10-10 on the year, 7-6 in conference play. Oregon falls to 7-17on the season, 2-11 in the Pac-10.

Sophomore middle blocker Michelle Mortensen had 14 kills and five block assists, while hitting .440 for the match. Senior middle blocker Shawna Vanley added 13 kills and six block assists, while hitting .417 for the match. Freshman outside hitter Jami Coughlin recorded 12 kills and a match-high 24 digs for the Devils. Junior setter Jolynn Faatulu had 57 assists, 10 digs and five block assists on the afternoon. As a team, hit .234 and four players figured in double figures for kills.

"I am so proud of the way our squad kept fighting for every point," said head coach Patti Snyder-Park. "We had some great individual efforts from our middle blockers and Jami Coughlin did an outstanding job defensively for us."

Four players ended the match in double figures in kills for the Ducks as well. Madeline Ernst, Monique Tobaggi and Alli White all recorded 19 kills each for Oregon on the afternoon. Tanja Nikolic added 10 kills and four block assists in the Ducks effort. Freshman setter Julie Gerlach recorded 61 assists, 13 digs and a match-high seven assists. As a team, Oregon hit .213 for the match.

Arizona State hits the road in continued conference action as they face UCLA on Friday, November 6 at 7 p.m. PST. The Devils then take on USC on Sunday, November 8 at 1 p.m. PST in Los Angeles, Calif.
