TEMPE, Ariz. – The No. 23 Arizona State women’s tennis team lost, 5-2, to No. 1 Southern California, Saturday, at Whiteman Tennis Center. Arizona State (12-7, 3-4) will be on the road next week to take on Oregon and Washington.

“Today’s match was a lot like last week’s in the way we played, “ said ASU head coach Sheila McInerney. “We hung on to win the doubles point, which is obviously nice.”

During doubles, Arizona State went down early on court three Southern Californa’s Gabby Smith and Madison Westby defeated Arizona State’s Ebony Panoho and Alex Osborne, 8-6. It was not long until Senior Joanna Smith and sophomore Kassidy Jump took court two to leave it up to court one to earn the doubles point. One court one, junior Desirae Krawczyk and Stephanie Vlad battled to defeat Sabrina Santamaria and Zoe Katz to earn Arizona State the early advantage for the day.

“Des got off to a great start and so did Ebony by winning their first sets,” said coach Sheila McInerney.” For Steph, I thought she battled; the match was very live until the end when she lost the last set. We have a tough road trip in Oregon and Washington, so we have our hands full with two very young teams.”

During singles, Krawczyk has continued to dominate as she defeated Santamaria, 6-3, 6-4. Krawczyk has been unbeatable this weekend as she also defeated top-ranked Robin Anderson, 6-4, 3-6, 6-2, Friday afternoon. Krawczyk improves her record to 15-4 in the No. 1 spot in ASU's line-up and to 21-4 overall record on the season. It was a close match on court six, as Panoho battled but was eventually defeated by Meredith Xepoleas, 6-7 (3), 6-2, 1-0 (10-2).

Up next, the Sun Devils will be on the road to continue conference play as they take on No. 62 Oregon at Eugene, Ore. on Friday, Apr. 10 at 1:30 p.m. MST and No. 51 Washington in Seattle, Wash. on Sunday, Apr. 12 at 11:00 a.m. MST.
