Women's Tennis Comes Up Short to Top-Ranked Stanford

TEMPE, Ariz. -- The eighth-ranked Arizona State women's tennis team lost to No. 1 Stanford, 5-4, today at the Whiteman Tennis Center on the ASU campus.

Freshman walk-on sensation Karin Palme, currently the 39th-ranked player in the country, won a three set thriller over fourth-ranked Julie Scott, 6-2, 0-6, 6-4. In their previous meeting in Stanford, Scott edged Palme in the third set 6-4. Palme found revenge earning the Sun Devils only singles victory.

Junior Katy Propstra fell in the third set against Stanford's Ania Bleszynski. No. 87 Bleszynski fell behind in the first set, but managed to fight her way back to win the next two sets and taking the match, 4-6, 6-4, 6-2. Propstra came back in doubles, as she and partner Stephanie Lansdorp blew by the No. 15 team of Anne Kremer and Teryn Ashley notching an 8-1 victory. The Sun Devils were superb in doubles action sweeping the Cardinals teams. ASU's Alison Nash and Celena McCOury knocked off the No. 9 pair of Bleszynski and Scott, 8-4.
