ASU's Cseresnyes Advances to Championship Match

TEMPE, Ariz.-- Top-seeded Reka Cseresnyes of ASU and No. 2 seed Esther Knox of California each recorded a pair of wins Saturday to reach Sunday's championship match in the ASU/Miss Karen's Fall Classic at Whiteman Tennis Center. The pair will do battle in the championship match, and also in the doubles semifinals.

In the singles semifinals, Cseresnyes advanced in two sets over Long Beach State's Jing Chen, the fifth seed (6-2, 6-0). Knox defeated No. 6 seed Veronika Safarova of USC in two sets (6-1, 6-0).

The ASU doubles team of Cseresnyes and Celena McCoury advanced to the semifinals by defeating Arizona's Monique Allegre and Joanna Buczkowska 8-1. Knox and teammate Claire Curren advanced by defeating Kansas State's Anna Pampoulova and Lena Piliptchak 8-3. The other doubles semifinal features Eva Novotna and Yana Dorodnova of Kansas State and USC's Veronika Safarova and Karolina Bakalarova.

The championship match begins at 9 a.m. Sunday. The singles consolation championship match is also slated for a 9 a.m. start. The doubles semifinals and championship match will take place Sunday afternoon.
