Mar. 3, 1998

TEMPE, Ariz. -- The Arizona State soccer team will hold its inaugural spring soccer tournament this Saturday and Sunday, March 7-8 at Sun Devil Soccer Field, located just east of Rual road behind the football and band practice fields. Admission is free. The two-day tournament will feature games all day long and will utilize 2 x 40 halves, not the regular 45 minutes halves.

This will be the first chance for Sun Devil fans to view the new and exciting 1998 team. The squad will showcase several returning players, including second-team all-Pac-10 performer Antoinette Marjanovic, ASU's top goal scorer Jaclyn Clark and the Sun Devils' top transfer Jennifer "J.P." Peterson.

The field will be comprised of six Division I teams and two club teams. In addition to host Arizona State, 1997 NCAA Tournament participants Minnesota and Brigham Young will highlight the field. Other teams in the spring tournament include the University of Arizona, Northern Arizona, New Mexico, Oneonta (N.Y.) Club and the Cisco Sensation (Ariz.) under 18 girls team.

Arizona State will kick off the tournament against Minnesota on Saturday at 8:00 a.m. ASU will then face BYU at 11:30 a.m. On Sunday, the Sun Devils will go against the Cisco Sensation Club at 11:30 a.m. and then will close the tournament with a game against New Mexico at 3:00 p.m.

Arizona State will open its 1998 regular season on Friday, August 28 at 7 p.m. with a home exhibition game against Grand Canyon University.
