A WEEK AGO: ASU split a pair in the Northwest, defeating Washington State 3-1 and falling to the University of Washington 5-1. Behind Jaclyn Clark's four point performance, the Sun Devils went into Pullman and snapped WSU's five-game winning steak. Sophomore Aisha Thomas posted the Devils first goal when she took a pass from Clark, blasting it off the goalkeepers hands at the 11:54 mark. Clark then scored her own goal in the 57th minute with assists going to Karine Inoue and Marianne Simmons. Inoue would seal the victory for ASU in the 81st minute when she nailed a long ball pass the WSU keeper. Assisting Inoue on the goal was Jessica Bohl and Clark. Against the Huskies in Seattle, the 5-1 score wasn't as bad as it looks, as ASU had several unlucky chances. Two balls went off the cross bar, while several shots just missed going in. For the second straight game, Aisha Thomas notched ASU first goal, and only goal, at the 65:47 mark. Thomas broke through the UW defense with a pass from freshman midfielder Antoinette Marjanovic and proceeded to dribble pass the Husky keeper. ASU keeper Erin Reinke registared 11 saves.
THE COMPETITION: Oregon State, in its tenth year as a program, has loss five in a row, including a tough 4-3 defeat in overtime to nationally ranked USC. The Beavers are led by senior defender Lindsay Allori, who has one goal on six assists for eight points. Junior forward Lindy Brown and freshman defender Libby Christensen each have six points (3 goals). OSU keeper Kristen Dulacki has a 2.26 goals against average, allowing 27 goals while making 101 saves. The Oregon Ducks have two double-digit scorers in sophomore forward Sierra Marsh (3 goals, 6 assists, 12 points) and sophomore midfielder Kristi Morris (5 goals, 1 assist, 11 points). Ducks keeper Amanda Fox has a 2.95 goals against average, allowing 46 goals while posting 109 saves. Oregon is 2-0 when leading at half and 0-8 when trailing.
THOMAS COMING ON: Sophomore forward Aisha Thomas has tallied ASU's first goal in three of the past four games. She has also scored a goal in four of ASU's past five contests. Thomas, who hails from Madison, Wisconsin, is fourth on the team in points (11) and goals (5).
CAN'T GET NO SATISFACTION: Due to the November 7th Rolling Stones concert at Sun Devil Stadium, ASU's match against Stanford has been moved to 4:30 p.m. instead of the original 7 p.m. kickoff. The game will still be played at Sun Devil Soccer Field.
ONE-TWO PUNCH: Part of the ASU success this season can be attributed to freshmen Karine Inoue and Jaclyn Clark. The two players have combined for 54 shots, recorded 13 goals and nine assists. They are also responsible for over a third of the team's points with 35. The pair combined for seven points in ASU's victory over Washington State. Inoue, a forward from Laguna Hills, Calif., also has a game-winning goal to her credit. Clark, a native of Rochester Hills, Mich., plays forward and has posted at least one point in seven of ASU's 13 games, including her first hat trick against Creighton.
THE CROATIAN SENSATION: Freshman midfielder Antoinette Marjanovic is lighting up the score board in all categories: goals (7), assists (5), total points (19) and game-winning goals (3). The Mayfield Senior product from Los Angeles, Calif., was the youngest and first American-Croatian to play on the Croatian National women's team. Marjanovic's three game-winning goals ties her for seventh in the West Region.
CORNER KICKS: ASU's six goals scored against Utah State is the most ever ... the five goal margin of victory over Creighton is the largest ever ... ASU has outscored their opponents 19-7 in the first half ... ASU has broke eight team records so far this year ... 13 different Sun Devils have contributed at least two points ... at this time last year, ASU had scored only 13 goals comparied to 33 this season ... ASU is ranked eigth in the West Region in scoring with a 2.54 goals against average
