Sun Devils Defeat Buffaloes, 1-0

TEMPE, Ariz. -- The Arizona State women's soccer team started the 1997 season on a winning note by defeating the University of Colorado 1-0 at the Pleasant View Soccer Complex in Boulder.

The game's sole goal came from ASU freshman midfielder Antoinette Marjanovic with an assist from sophomore forward Sarah Blaska.

The shot was made from the left side of the CU keeper and came at the 19:03 mark in the first half.

Marjanovic, a native of Los Angeles, California, was the youngest and first American-Croatian to play on the Croatian National Team.

The Sun Devils peppered the Colorado goalie with 17 shots, while the Buffaloes had 11. ASU keeper Erin Reinke made only one save in the victory.

Leading the Sun Devils in shots was freshman Karine Inoway with five, while four other teammates had two a piece.

Arizona State heads next to Laramie, Wyoming to take on the Cowgirls on Sunday with a 1 p.m. start.
