Arizona State Soccer Travels to USC & #18 UCLA

Sun Devils Face Toughest Challenge of The Season

ON TAP: The Arizona State soccer team (10-5-0, 4-1-0 Pac-10), fresh off back-to-back shutout wins, will travel to Southern California for a pair of crucial Pac-10 matches against USC (13-2-1, 4-1-0 Pac-10) on Friday, at 3:00 p.m. and #18 UCLA (13-2-0, 5-0-0 Pac-10) on Sunday, at 4:00 p.m. Arizona State is tied with USC and Washington for second place in the Pac-10, while UCLA stands a top with a perfect record.

A WEEK AGO: The Sun Devils notched their third and fourth Pac-10 wins by whitewashing Oregon State (4-0) and Oregon (2-0) last weekend. Combined, ASU outshot the Beavers and Ducks 40-13. Against Oregon State, four different ASU players tallied goals with Karine Inoue picking up her second game-winner of the season. Inoue's score came in the 15th minute when she got behind the Beavers' defense after receiving a pass from Antoinette Marjanovic. Fifteen minutes later, Kim Wagner nailed a strike from a corner kick to Jaclyn Clark who headed it pass the OSU keeper. Wagner would get her second assist on the night when she fed a 10-yard pass to Marjanovic, who then lobbed the ball over the goalkeeper. A minute later, Kerrie Kulak sealed the win when she tallied an unassisted goal on a break away. Versus Oregon, the Sun Devils were held scoreless until the second half when freshman Jessica Bohl dribbled pass the UO defense and goalkeeper to score. Sophomore Aisha Thomas put the Devils up for good in the 76th minute by blasting a shot pass the tender. This was the second time that ASU has recorded back-toback shutouts this year as they registered a pair against Colorado and Wyoming.

THE COMPETITION: USC, who fell to UCLA last week (1-3), are led by Kim Clark's 34 points (10 goals, 14 assists). Clark leads the West Region in assists and is second in scoring. Laura Badagliacco has a 1.162 GAA (13 goals, 57 saves). USC's only two defeats came at the hands of ranked opponents-#6 Nebraska and #19 UCLA. The Bruins, ranked 18th by Soccer America, are led by Traci Arkenberg's 43 points (18 goals, 7 assists). She leads the West Region in goals and scoring. Arkenberg also has tallied six game-winners. Leading the Pac-10 in goalies is Lindsay Culp, who boasts a 0.76 GAA.

THOMAS COMING ON: Sophomore forward Aisha Thomas has tallied ASU's first goal in three of the past five games. She has also scored a goal in five of ASU's past six contests. Thomas, who hails from Madison, Wisconsin, is fourth on the team in points (13) and goals (6).

CAN'T GET NO SATISFACTION: Due to the November 7th Rolling Stones concert at Sun Devil Stadium, ASU's match against Stanford has been moved to 4:30 p.m. instead of the original 7 p.m. kickoff. The game will still be played at Sun Devil Soccer Field.

ONE-TWO PUNCH: Part of the ASU success this season can be attributed to freshmen Karine Inoue and Jaclyn Clark. The two players have combined for 69 shots, recorded 15 goals and 10 assists. They are also responsible for over a third of the team's points with 40.

HOMECOMING: Five ASU players are from the Southern California area: Tricia Steiner-Anaheim Hills (Mater Dei HS); Sharon Gillis-Fountain Valley (Fountain Valley HS); Karine Inoue-Laguna Hills (Laguna Hills HS); Antoinette Marjanovic-Los Angeles (Mayfield Senior); Kari Laughlin-San Diego (San Dieguito HS)

THE CROATIAN SENSATION: Freshman midfielder Antoinette Marjanovic is lighting up the score board in all categories: goals (8), assists (6), total points (22) and game-winning goals (3). Marjanovic was the youngest and first American-Croatian to play on the Croatian National women's team. Marjanovic's three game-winning goals ties her for sixth in the West Region.

CORNER KICKS: ASU's six goals scored against Utah State is the most ever ... the five goal margin of victory over Creighton is the largest ever ... ASU has outscored their opponents 21-7 in the first half ... ASU has broke eight team records so far this year ... 13 different Sun Devils have contributed at least two points ... ASU is ranked seventh in the West Region in scoring with a 2.60 goals per match ... ASU is 8-2 when leading at half ... seven Sun Devils have at least one game-winner.
