Women's Hoops Falls to No. 5 Stanford, 90-71

STANFORD, Calif. (AP) - Kristin Folkl came off the bench and led a balanced attack with 16 points as No. 5 Stanford beat Arizona State 90-71 Thursday night.

Folkl was one of five players who scored in double figures as the Cardinal (18-5, 14-1 Pac-10) used a 19-0 run in the second half on the way to their 12th straight.

The win also improved Stanford to 15-1 since Dec. 28 - when Folkl joined the team after her season with the NCAA champion Cardinal volleyball team.

Stephanie Freeman scored 18 points to lead Arizona State (10-14, 6-9).

Folkl, Olympia Scott and Vanessa Nygaard sparked a the key 19-0 run early in the second half that turned a 46-45 deficit into a 64-46 advantage with 10:12 left in the game.

The Cardinal defense shut down the Sun Devils in the second half, holding them to only six field goals.

Stanford took a 43-38 halftime lead, helped by Nygaard's nine points and five rebounds. Arizona State trailed by 22-19 when Nygaard led an 11-4 scoring run with five points to put the Cardinal up 33-23.

Scott finished with 15, Milena Flores with 14 and Nygaard with 13 for Stanford.
