Women's Golf Star O'Neal Wins Long Drive Contest At NCAA Championships

SUNRIVER, Ore. - Freshman Blair O'Neal won the long drive contest Monday in the pretournament activities at the 2000 NCAA Women's Golf Championships, being held May 24-27 at Crosswater Golf Course in Sunriver, Ore.

One of the longest hitters in the college game, O'Neal's winning drive sailed 295 yards, while fellow ASU freshman Miriam Nagl also got into the action, taking third in the contest with a 290-yard drive.

Nagl, the nation's top-ranked golfer and winner of the NCAA Fall Preview held this fall at Crosswater, was also competed for the victorious West team in the East/West matches also held Monday afternoon.

Winners of six national titles in the 1990s, the Sun Devils begin their pursuit of another national title Wednesday afternoon, teeing off in the first round at 2:20 p.m. from tee No. 10. ASU will tee off from No. 1 at 9:50 a.m. on Thursday, while tee times in the third and fourth rounds Friday and Saturday will be determined by results.
