Women's Golf Sixth After Two Rounds at NCAA Regional

LUBBOCK, Texas - Led by junior Alissa Kuczka, the Arizona State University women's golf team moved up one spot to sixth after the second round of the NCAA Central Regional, being held May 5-7 at the par 72, 6,328-yard Jerry S. Rawls Course.

On a day where gusty winds contributed to high scores, the Sun Devils moved into sixth place on Friday after carding a 22-over 310 for a two-round total of 606. ASU heads into Saturday's final round just three strokes out of the lead. Baylor, Texas A&M, Missouri and Auburn are all in a four-way tie for first after two round at 27-over 603. Purdue is in fifth place (604) followed by ASU (606).

Individually, Kuczka is tied for third after shooting a four-over 76 on Friday for a two-day total of 148. She is five strokes off the lead of Lisa Ferrero of Texas (70-73=143). Freshman Louise Stahle is tied for sixth at five-over 149 (72-77), while senior Erin Tone is tied for 22nd with a two-round total of seven-over 151 (76-75). Rounding out the Sun Devil lineup are sophomore Tiffany Tavee who is tied for 74th (76-82=158) and sophomore Charmaine Erasmus who stands in a tie for 90th (80-83=163).

The Sun Devils head into Saturday's final round looking to qualify for their 14th straight trip to the NCAA Championships. The top eight teams from each of the three regionals (East, West, Central) will qualify for the 2005 NCAA Division I Women's Golf Championships, which will be hosted by Oregon State University on May 17-20 at the Meadows Golf Course in Sunriver, Ore.

ASU will tee off at 7:40 a.m. Central Time (5:40 a.m. in Arizona) in Saturday's final round with live scoring available at www.golfstatresults.com.
