Women's Golf Second After First Round of Mountain View Collegiate

TUCSON, Ariz. - The Arizona State women's golf team shot a 14-over par 302 Saturday and is in second place after the first round of the Mountain View Collegiate, being held March 23-24 at the par 72, 5,934-yard Mountain View Golf Course.

The seventh-ranked Sun Devils are just four strokes off the lead of Kansas State, which carded a 10-over 298 in the first round. ASU (302), Long Beach State (305), Baylor (307) and Iowa (308) round out the top five after the first day of play.

For the Sun Devils, junior Blair O'Neal is looking for her first top five finish of the season and is tied for third after carding a one-over 73 in the first round. Fellow juniors Melanie Hunt and Ga?lle Truet are each tied for 11th after shooting 76s on Saturday, while sophomore Jimin Kang is just one stroke behind and tied for 16th (77). True freshman Josefin Gustafsson is tied for 55th after shooting an 84 on Saturday.

Individually, Long Beach State's Marie Louise Juul turned in the only sub-par round of the day and leads the field with a one-under 71 on Saturday.

The tournament, which is being hosted by Colorado and Colorado State, concludes on Sunday with a shotgun start at 8:30 a.m. MST.
