The Arizona State women's basketball team will travel to Las Vegas to take on UNLV (22-7) on Thursday night in the first round of 2004 Women's National Invitation Tournament.
Thursday's game will tip off at 7:30 p.m. Pacific Time (8:30 p.m. Mountain) at the Cox Pavilion in Las Vegas.
The WNIT bid marks the school-record fifth consecutive postseason invitation for the Sun Devils who played in the WNIT in 2000 and 2003 and made NCAA Tournament appearances in 2001 and 2002. Last year, Arizona State defeated Hawaii 57-44 in the first round of the WNIT before falling at tournament runner-up Baylor 85-62 in the second round.
Arizona State brings a 17-11 overall record into Thursday's game, the team's fourth consecutive winning season, and tied for third in the league with an 11-7 Pac-10 mark. UNLV holds a 22-7 record and finished third in the Mountain West Conference with a 10-4 mark. The Lady Rebels won four of their last five games, most recently falling to Utah 59-55 in the semifinals of their conference tournament on March 12.
The winner of Thursday's game between ASU and UNLV will face the winner of a first-round match-up between Rice (21-9) and Arkansas State (19-9), being played in State University, Ark., on Thursday. Dates and locations of second-round games will be determined after each game.
The WNIT features a field of 32 teams in a single-elimination format. All games, including the semifinals and championship game, will be hosted by participating schools at on-campus sites.
