ASU Falls to Myjava in Final Exhibition

TEMPE, Ariz.-- Senior guard Stephanie Freeman (Austin, Texas) led ASU with 13 points, and sophomore forward Kristine Sand (Oslo, Norway) added 10 points as the Sun Devils ended their exhibition slate with a 62-48 loss to Myjava (Slovakia) Friday night at the University Activity Center.

After trailing 17-2, ASU chipped away and ended the first half on an 8-0 run to pull within four points (25-21). Rechelle Lang (TeKuiti, New Zealand) added a field goal and a pair of free throws in the run.

However, Myjava outscored ASU 19-5 to start the second stanza, and the Sun Devils were unable to recover.

"We were not focused and we committed too many turnovers," said ASU head coach Charli Turner Thorne. "But there were some bright spots here. Sometimes a bad loss is a good learning tool. Our half-court defense, when we really focused, was very good. We have to work on maintaining our intensity."

Freeman grabbed a team-high six boards for the Sun Devils. Sand was 2-for-3 from beyond the arc, and senior guard Rameeka Lowe (Seattle, Wash.) gave out a team-high four assists.

The foreign team was led by Vladimira Daniskova's 16 points. Sylvia Janostinova recorded a double-double, with 10 points and 12 rebounds. Myjava shot 60.7 percent (17-for-28) from the field in the second half, and 50.9 percent (28-for-55) for the game.

ASU is back in action Thursday when it hosts defending Big West Champion UC Santa Barbara. Tipoff is set for 7:06 p.m. in the UAC. The game will be broadcast live on FOX Sports Arizona.
