Arizona State Knocks Off Cougars, 79-70
PULLMAN, Wash. (AP) - Rachel Holt scored 20 points and Arizona State rode 62 percent field goal shooting to a 79-70 victory over Washington State in Pac-10 women's basketball Thursday night.
Arizona State (9-10, 5-5 Pac-10) also got 19 points from Stephanie Freeman and 13 from Kristine Sand. Holt connected on seven of eight field goal attempts.
Alke Dietel led Washington State (9-10, 3-7) with 22 points. Victoria Harrod came off the bench to score 13 and Tricia Lamb scored 11.
The Sun Devils jumped to a 43-28 halftime lead, hitting 17 of 25 field goals for 68 percent in the first half.
Arizona State led by as many as 17 points in the second half, but the Cougars closed to within five points with 30 seconds to play. The Sun Devils then hit five of six free throws to ice the game.
