Volleyball Wins 18 of 20 Matches at Arizona's Spring Tournament

March 23, 2013

2013 Volleyball Roster
TUCSON, Ariz. -
Arizona State volleyball decisively handled its opponents on Saturday, winning 18 of 20 matches at Arizona's tournament.  The Sun Devils also topped its in-state rival and Pac-12 foe, Arizona, in two sets.

"I felt it was a good day," head coach Jason Watson said. "By splitting into two teams, our athletes got a lot of playing time. Our recent additions got to play with us for the first time. Each played well and are adding to the competitive nature of our program."

Fans may remember that the Sun Devils signed BreElle Bailey, Kwyn Johnson and McKenzie Willey in the early signing period. Here on campus and practicing with the team are Bianca Arellano, a University of Tennessee transfer, Bailey and Willey. Bailey was recently named to Volleyball Magazine's Fab 50 and Willey was the 2012 Gatorade Utah Volleyball Player of the Year.

"We have a lot of work left to do. A lot of details left to get in place. We're making significant progress as our returning athletes work to ensure another NCAA tournament appearance in 2013," Watson added.

Depth is a bonus that ASU will have next season with three seasoned setters and liberos, not to mention height that was added to the roster with the underclassman. Outside hitters Nora Tuioti-Mariner and Willey are both 6-1 and sophomores Whitney Follette and First Team All Pac-12 honoree Macey Gardner add to the position with their 6-2 and 6-0 frame, respectively. Bailey, 6-4, Mercedes Binns, 6-2, and Julia Katolik, 6-4, round out the squad at middle blockers.
