TEMPE, Ariz. - Arizona State volleyball has signed Julia Leddy and Mandy Stephens to study and compete at ASU announced head coach Patti Snyder-Park this afternoon.
"I'm really excited about both athletes," said Snyder-Park. "They have the ability to play high above the net which is what you need in the Pac-10. They're both big, mobile athletes which will provide us some blocking and offensive depth. In addition, they are great students and fun, coachable athletes."
Leddy, a local product from Mesa Mountain View High School in Mesa, is a 6-2 middle blocker. She plays club with the Arizona East Valley Junior 18-1, who are coached by ASU assistant coach Scott Swanson. Her team took 2nd out of 128 teams in the Fiesta Classic in January. She was an all-state selection in 1998 as well as an all-conference and all-region pick.
Stephens hails from Napa, California where she attended Napa High School. The 6-3 middle blocker's current club team is Empire Gold where she is coached by Bear Grassl. She was named MVP on both her club and high school teams last season. A four-year starter in high school, she led the team, league and county in kills her senior year. An all-league and all-county selection in '98, Stephens led her team to three Monticello Empire League Championships. She also plays basketball and is a high jumper at Napa High School.
