TEMPE, Ariz. - Arizona State senior pitcher Roxanne Tsosie was named a first-team All-Pac-10 performer as a total of five Sun Devils earned conference honors, as voted by the leagues coaches. While Tsosie was named to the first-team, Chris Gill and Raja Woods earned second-team acclaim while Carrie Breedlove and Erin Hull were honorable mention selections.
Tsosie, a senior pitcher from Bloomfield, N.M., led the Sun Devils with a 23-10 record and 1.28 ERA in 1998. She was a two-time Pac-10 Pitcher of the week, tallied seven shoutouts and recorded two saves. She fired her second career no-hitter this season, a 2-0 blanking of California on May 2, and is second in ASU history in career wins (61) and career strikeouts (425). She is the first 20-game winner at ASU since 1987 and struckout a career high 134 this season.
Woods, a senior outfielder from Suisun, Calif., started 50 games in 1998 and led the team in runs scored (33) and stolen bases (20) while posting the team's second-best batting average (.305). Her two-year career at ASU has seen her steal 46 bases, third-best in ASU history.
Gill, a sophomore third-baseman from Saugus, Calif., set a new ASU record with 41 RBI in 1998 and also led the team with six home runs and six doubles. A starter in 57 games despite a knee injury late in the season, Gill ranked third on the ASU squad with a .294 batting average. Gill's seven career home runs already rank third in ASU history.
Breedlove, a senior pitcher from Sunland, Calif., was a co-captain in 1998 and posted a 14-15 record with a 1.90 ERA. She posted a perfect game in her first start of the season, an 8-0 win over Detroit. She notched another no-hitter against Ball State and was named the USA Today/NFCA National Player of the Week on February 25. A two-time Pac-10 Pitcher of the Week, she led the team with 151 strikeouts and posted 10 shutouts.
Hull, a senior outfielder from Valencia, Calif., led the team in batting average (.339) and hits (60) in 1998 while starting 55 games. She ranks sixth in ASU history in both career batting average (.328) and career hits (174). She trailed only Woods in stolen bases in 1998 with 13 and her four-year total of 52 ranks second-best in ASU history.
The Sun Devils begin NCAA Tournament action Friday against Texas in Tampa, Fla., at 6:00 p.m. ET. ASU is making its 21st NCAA appearance.
