March 7, 1998

TEMPE, Ariz. -- Arizona State opened its outdoor season at home with the Bill Sawyer Invitational and 10 Sun Devils took home first place in their event. The most impressive were seniors Charity Amama and Jared Schrieber's wins in the javelin. Each posted NCAA provisional qualifying marks as Amama posted a 51.42 meter (168-8 ft.) toss while Schrieber went 67.26m (220-8 ft). Amama's toss was the third-best in ASU history while Schrieber's was the fourth-longest since 1986.

Other ASU winners included Fiona Daly (High Jump), Priscilla Hein (800 & 1,500), Ari Rodriguez (1,500), Christie Winkle (100), Matt Repak (3,000) and both the women's 4x100 and 4x400 relay squads.

The only other NCAA provisional mark set at the meet was by Arizona's Doug Reynolds, who won the discus with a 56.80 (186-4).

ASU concludes its indoor season at the NCAA Championships next weekend before hosting its next outdoor meet, the ASU/USTCA Invitational, March 21.
