1999 XC: Earned all-region honors with a school-record second-place finish at the West Regionals...finished six seconds behind Oregon's Steve Fein...eclipsed Mike Stahr's ASU record fourth-place finish in 1984...athsma hindered his efforts at the Pac-10 and NCAA Championships, where he finished 22nd and 115th, respectively...finished sixth at the Cal Irvine Invitational and ran a seazson-best time of 24:28 to place 11th at the Pre-NCAA meet...earned honorable mention Pac-10 All-Academic acclaim...during the spring of 1999, he was the second-best American finisher (30th) at the IAAF World Junior Cross Country Championships, held in Belfast, with a time of 28:13...fellow Sun Devil Fasil Bizuneh placed 25th as the two led the U.S. to a sixth-place finish...finished third at the national junior championships.
1998 Track: Redshirted the indoor and outdoor seasons.
1998 XC: Second-best freshman at Pac-10 Championships, trailing only teammate Juan Chavira...placed 15th (24:24)...finished 35th, third-best on squad, at NCAA West Regional (31:59)...had three top 20 finishes, including a 12th-place showing at Sundodger Invitational (25:45).
High School: Placed third at 1997 Foot Locker National Championships...1996 and '97 CIF Division IV cross country champion...'97 3200m state champion (9:06.06)...captured two-mile title at 1998 L.A. Indoor Invitational...1997 XC All-American.
Personal: Majoring in broadcasting...parents names are Ray and Deb Festa...has one sister, Stephanie (21)...born in San Luis Obispo, Calif.
