TEMPE, Ariz. - The top-ranked Arizona State women's golf team will compete in its final regular season event on Saturday when it travels to Palos Verdes, Calif., for a tri-match against No. 7 Southern California and No. 11 UCLA.
The tri-match will use a Modified Stableford format for scoring with six players counting six. The Sun Devils and Trojans will both have No. 7 and No. 8 players who will compete against each other in match play format. The system being used will award players six points for an eagle, three for a birdie, one for a par, minus one for a bogey and minus two for a double bogey or worse.
The Sun Devils come into Saturday's event having won their last three tournaments, most recently the annual PING/ASU Invitational played earlier this month in Tempe. In that tournament the Sun Devils set tourney records for the lowest final total (851, 13-under par) and the lowest single round (280, 8-under in the second round). Also setting a new tournament record was freshman Anna Nordqvist, who took top honors at the PING/ASU with a three-day record low total of 10-under 206. For her effort, Nordqvist was named the Golfweek Player of the Week.
Following Saturday's event the Sun Devils will prepare for the postseason run which will start with the Pac-10 Championships (Apr. 23-25) in Seattle, Wash. ASU will look to go one step further at Pac-10s after a pair of runner-up finishes the last two seasons. Following the conference event the Sun Devils will next travel to one of three sites for the NCAA Regional Championship (May 10-12). The season will then conclude with the NCAA Championships, which will be taking place May 22-25 in Daytona Beach, Fla. ASU has recorded top-10 finishes each of the last three seasons, including a fourth-place finish at last year's NCAAs.
