FAYETTEVILLE, Ark.—Arizona State track and field’s redshirt senior Bryan McBride earned his fifth career All-America honor as he place eighth in the long jump competition at 7.59m (24-11.00) on Friday at the 2015 NCAA Indoor Track and Field Championships at the Randal Tyson Track Center.
This is the first time the Peoria, Ariz. native has earned top-accolades in the long jump.
Up next, McBride will compete in the high jump on Saturday at 1:30 p.m. PT/3:30 p.m. CT.
“It’s been a good day for us in Fayetteville,” Director of Track and Field Greg Kraft said. “The meet got off to a wonderful start with Shelby Houlihan and her very controlled effort in her heat of the mile. She closed well and looked like the Shelby Houlihan we expected to see out there today. From there it just kept getting better.”
Three more Sun Devils qualified for Saturday’s finals on the track, starting with senior Shelby Houlihan, who won her heat of the mile prelims at 4:36.17. Her automatic qualifying time was fifth overall, and she will run at 4 p.m. PT/6 p.m. CT.
Houlihan is also scheduled to run in the finals of the 3000m at 6:00 p.m. PT/8 p.m. CT.
The next qualifier was senior Cameron Taylor, who ran 7.78 in the 60m hurdles, finishing second in his heat to move automatically to the finals. He will run next at 4:30 p.m. PT/6:30 p.m. CT.
ASU’s final qualifier was senior Brianna Tate, who ran a personal best 52.40 in the third heat of the 400m dash. Tate finished second in her heat and with the fourth fastest time overall. She will run at 4:40 p.m. PT/6:40 p.m. CT.
Tate’s time also moves her to No. 2 in the ASU indoor record book behind Maicel Malone’s school record time of 51.05, which she ran in 1991.
“Brianna Tate ran a lifetime best for indoor, was second in her heat and advances to the final,” Kraft said. “Cam Taylor showed great composure today in his race, there were two false starts, but he kept his composure and ran second at 7.78, a wonderful performance to get him into the finals. Bryan McBride was in just his second long jump competition this year, became an All-American and got us on the board, scoring that point.”
Redshirt senior Devan Spann was scheduled to run in the 200m dash prelims, but withdrew due to injury.
ESPN3’s coverage of the final day of competition at the 2015 NCAA Indoor Track and Field Championships will begin at 3:50 p.m. PT/5:50 p.m. CT.

More From Head Coach Greg Kraft
“The only setback we had, at the MPSF meet, Devan Spann got hurt in the 60m, even though he took second. He made really good progress this week, but had a setback yesterday on the banks, so we decided not to run him today. Our goal is still to be in the top-10 on both sides, and I think we did the things necessary today to put us in position for that. Tomorrow when we line up with the women, we have three competitors, Shelby running both the mile and she’ll come back in the 3000m, Brianna in the 400m, and Bryan will be high jumping while Cameron will be in the hurdles. So we’re looking forward to the events tomorrow.”
From Five-Time All-American Bryan McBride
“I competed in the long jump today at the national meet, and it went pretty well in terms of my placement. I finished eighth, got some hardware, a trophy to take home, but overall it wasn’t exactly wanted I wanted to do as far as distance. Still, I can’t complain, I got eighth, I’m an All-American in the long jump, so I’m just ready to relax, get some good rest before I come out tomorrow in the high jump.”
