Seven-time U.S. Champion to Head Sun Devil Diving Program
Arizona State University has hired former Olympian Mark Bradshaw as its new head diving coach, Director of Athletics Dr. Kevin White announced last month. A former Olympian, Bradshaw comes to Tempe after having an immediate impact as head diving coach at Ohio University and Army.
Last year Bradshaw was hired in mid-season as the head diving coach at Ohio U, and proceeded to take the women's team to a second place finish in the Mid-American Conference.
Bradshaw was also the first full-time diving coach hired at the United States Military Academy. In just his second year at West Point, Bradshaw was named the Metro Conference Diving Coach of the Year.
In addition to his collegiate coaching, Bradshaw brings a wealth of International experience to ASU. He was a member of the 1988 United States Olympic Diving team, where he finished fifth in the 3-meter competition.
Bradshaw's other accolades include being named the 1993 United States Olympic Committee Male Diver of the Year and the 1990 United States Diving/Phillips 66 Diver of the Year.
A seven-time U.S. national champion and a two-time Pan American Games competitor, Bradshaw also competed in the F.I.N.A World Cup, the World University Games and the World Aquatic Championships.
Bradshaw, who graduated from Ohio State in 1985 with a bachelor's degree in physical education and a master's degree in the same discipline in 1987, was a four-time All-America in the 1 and 3-meter diving events. In 1983, he was crowned the NCAA champion in the 3-meter event.
Additionally, he was a four-time Big Ten Conference diving champion and was named the Big Ten's Diver of the Year in 1984 and '85.
For his achievements, Bradshaw was inducted into the Ohio State University Athletic Hall of Fame in 1993.
Bradshaw takes over for Ward O'Connell, who retired this past season after 23 years at the helm of the Sun Devil diving program.
