USC Swimmers Sweep ASU

TEMPE, Ariz. - USC swept Arizona State in a men's and women's swimming dual meet this afternoon at the Mona Plummer Aquatic Center that saw four new pool records set. The 2nd-ranked USC women swam away with a 191-115 victory over the 23rd-ranked Sun Devils, while the 5th-ranked men rallied from an early deficit to win 167.5-132.5 over 11th-ranked ASU.

USC's Lenny Krayzelburg was the star of the meet, setting a new pool record in the 100 back (49.33) and 200 back (1:43.12). USC's women also set a new pool record in the 400 medley relay (3:48.63). ASU's men set a pool record of their own, with a 3:19.62 in the 400 medley relay.

On the boards, ASU's Allan Sonkin won both the 1-meter and 3-meter men's diving competition. Dorte Linder won the women's 1-meter for USC and teammate Natalya Chikina took the 3-meter.

The Sun Devil women's team will next be in action Nov.21-22, where they will host the 1997 Sun Devil Classic. ASU's men's squad travels to Lincoln, Nebraska to compete in the Nike Sprint Classic on November 21.
