ASU - Arizona State (32-12, 8-4 Pac-10 and ranked No. 14 Baseball America, No. 14 Baseball Weekly/ESPN Coaches Poll and No. 16 Collegiate Baseball) travel to Los Angeles to take on UCLA (18-23, 2-7 Pac-10) in a three-game conference series beginning on Friday at Jackie Robinson Stadium.

ASU TEAM AND INDIVIDUALS RANKED NATIONALLY - The Arizona State Sun Devils have shown up both as a team and individually in the NCAA national rankings. As a team, ASU is leading the nation in batting average (.370) and runs per game (12.2) despite having played its first 12 games with wooden bats. Individually, ASU has two players ranked in the top 50 in batting average - 20. Mark Ernster (.446) and 47. Andrew Beinbrink (.425). Beinbrink is ranked eighth in the country in RBI per game (1.64) while Will Waldrip is tied for third in most victories (9).
BEINBRINK BECOMES ASU CAREER LEADER IN TOTAL BASES - Senior Andrew Beinbrink (San Diego, Calif.) became ASU's career leader in total bases surpassing Clay Westlake. He now has 511 total bases for his career which ranks second in the conference. He currently has 270 career RBI and is now in second at ASU in career doubles with 71 ( ranks third in the Pac-10). He is second all-time in runs scored with 227 and needs 10 runs to become the career leader (he is ranked sixth in the conference). Beinbrink could finish his career in the top five in seven of 10 offensive categories at Arizona State. The two-time first-team all-conference selection has 21 multiple-hit games and 18 multiple RBI games. His .425 batting average is second on the squad and his 71 hits, 72 RBI, 11 homers and 18 doubles leads the team. Beinbrink is batting .452 with runners in scoring position. He is currently on a two-game hitting streak. Beinbrink has recorded an extra base hit in 12 of his last 17 games.
WALDRIP GETS NO DECISION IN 10-9 WIN OVER WSU - Junior transfer Will Waldrip (Flagstaff, Ariz.) did not receive a decision in ASU's dramatic 10-9 win over WSU on Friday night . Waldrip, in his shortest outing of the season, lasted only 3.0 innings, allowed 7 hits, six runs with four strikeouts. He currently leads the staff in wins (9), complete games (4), innings pitched (84.2) and strikeouts (79). Waldrip is the first ASU pitcher to record four complete games since Kaipo Spencer logged five in 1995. He is the first Devil hurler to throw three shutouts since Sean Rees in 1990. He became the first ASU pitcher since Doug Henry in 1983 to post back-to-back complete game shutouts earlier this year. Waldrip pitched 21.1 consecutive scoreless innings before giving up his first run of the season in the third inning of Saturday's game vs. Howard He has allowed only five homeruns through 13 starts and is holding opponent batters to a .229 average. He was honored as Pac-10 Pitcher of the Week (3/16). Waldrip's two losses on the mound have come against top 5 teams. If Waldrip wins this weekend, he will become the first ASU pitcher since 1994 to record 10 or more wins in a season (In 1994 Kaipo Spenser went 10-0 and Noah Peery went 11-2).
CRUMPTON PICKS UP SIXTH WIN ON THE MOUND - Senior righthander Chuck Crumpton (6-1) garnered his sixth win of the season in a 16-5 win over WSU this weekend. Crumpton went 6.0 innings, allowed nine hits, five earned runs while striking out seven. He is holding righthanded batters to a .256 average at the plate and leads the pitching staff in pickoff with five on the season. Crumpton is averaging 9.7 strikeouts per game. He was honored as the Pac-10 Pitcher of the Week for his performance in the 25-0 win over California. Crumpton went 7.0 innings, allowed only three hits while striking out a career-high 12 batters. He retired 16 of 22 batters faced and held the Golden Bears to a .143 average at the plate. He has an ERA of 3.69 and is second on the staff with 76 strikeouts on the season Last year, he led the pitching staff with five saves and a 3.00 ERA as a reliever. He has made 16 appearances this season, seven of those in relief. He is 3-1 in his last four starts and is 2-1 in Pac-10 starts. Here is the breakdown of his starts this season:

SITZMAN STEALS 30TH BASE OF THE SEASON - Junior outfielder Jay Sitzman (Scottsdale, Ariz.) continues to lead the Devils in stolen bases adding two more over the weekend to bring his season total to a team-leading 30. He has four stolen bases in the last four games. His .399 batting average is third on the squad. His 55 hits is fourth on the squad while his 54 runs ranks third. He is one of five Sun Devils with an over .500 on-base percentage in the starting lineup. He has recorded 13 multiple-hit games as well as six multiple-RBI games this year. He has notched 10 two-out RBI and is batting .435 with runners on base. He sports a .542 average as a leadoff hitter. Sitzman strung together eight consecutive hits during the Boston College series. The eight consecutive hits ties for second all-time at ASU. Sitzman is on a nine-game hitting streak heading into the UCLA series.
BLOOMQUIST tied for second in Pac-10 in career triples - Leadoff batter Willie Bloomquist (Port Orchard, Wash.) knocked in two triples over the weekend to bring his season total to six and his career total to 20. The junior shortstop is tied for second in the conference and tied for third at ASU with 20 career triples. Over the weekend he went 6-for-14 (.429) with seven runs scored and eight RBI as well as a double, two triples and a homerun. He had a slugging percentage of 1.000 and was perfect in the field with six putouts and six assists. He leads the squad in multiple-hit games with 24 and is tied for first with teammate Andrew Beinbrink in multiple-RBI games with 18. He has drawn 37 walks and tallied a team-leading 71 runs scored. Bloomquist is batting .524 as a leadoff batter and is batting .467 with runners in scoring position. Bloomquist is first on the squad in two-out RBI with 21 on the year. He ran his hitting streak to 20 games before going 0-for-5 vs. Stanford. It is the longest hitting streak of his college career. He has hit safely in 39 of 44 games this season. He was selected to both Baseball America's (second-team) and Collegiate Baseball's (third-team) preseason All-American teams. His 20 career triples ties him for second all-time in the Pac-10 (the record is 29). He is second on the team in stolen bases with 23 and is currently on a four-game hitting streak. Bloomquist has tallied an extra-base hit in his last four games.

INJURY REPORT - Senior transfer Donny Starkins was scheduled to have surgery on his left knee over spring break and is out for the season. Freshman infielder Gonzo Grasis (Tucson, Ariz.) has had surgery on his left wrist and will be out for the season. Second baseman Mark Ernster fractured his right thumb in Friday's game with Washington State. He is out indefinitely.

ALL IN THE FAMILY - Three father/son combinations have played at Arizona State including current Sun Devils Casey Myers and Brian Berger. Myers father Clint played at ASU from 1971-73 while Berger's father Bill played for the Devils from 1970-71-73. Father Eddie Bane (1971-73) and son Jaymie Bane (1997) round out the trio of father/son combos to don the Sun Devils uniform. Seven sets of brothers have graced the ASU rosters through the years: Chris (1975-78) and Sal (1964-65) Bando; Kevin (1978-81) and Pat (1980-82) Dukes; Byron (1979), Dale (1976-79) and Larry (1976-78) Eiler; Greg (1968) and Skip (1964) Hancock; Darrell (1974-77) and Dwayne (1979) Jackson; Jeff (1994) and Mike (1993) Rensmeyer; and John (1971-73) and Tom (1973-75) Sain. Head Coach Pat Murphy
Pat Murphy now in his fifth season at Arizona State after spending seven years at Notre Dame, has left his mark on Arizona State baseball. In his first year, Murphy guided ASU to a 34-21 record and put together the No. 1 recruiting class in the country. In 1996, he directed ASU to a 35-21 record and a No. 25 final ranking by Baseball America. The 1997 season marked ASU's return to postseason play as ASU went 3-2 in the Atlantic Regiona, narrowly missing out on a trip to Omaha. The Devils finished with a 39-22 record and a No. 11 ranking by Baseball America and No. 14 ranking by Collegiate Baseball. Murphy has also started the Pitch-by-Pitch Baseball Academy which holds baseball camps and clinics year round, not only in Phoenix, but around the country as well. Last season, he was honored as Baseball America's Coach of the Year after guiding the Devils to a second-place showing at the College World Series. The '98 squad went 41-23, 18-11 (3rd) in conference. They won the Midwest Regional with a 3-1 victory over Georgia Tech to advance to the CWS for the first time since 1994.
The Syracuse, N.Y., native's Notre Dame teams recorded 45 or more wins in six of seven seasons and advanced to the finals of an NCAA Regional each of the last three seasons.
He also has international coaching experience, guiding the Dutch National Team to the European championship in the summer of 1987, and helping to develop baseball in Australia as a state manager in New South Wales in 1984.
Notable
Murphy is the first coach in the era of aluminum bats to have his players practice exclusively with wood bats in practice.
Murphy has never had a player declared ineligble for a season.
