Sun Devil Hockey Ready For New Year's Clash With St. Cloud State

The Arizona State University hockey team continues its road streak against the No. 5 St. Cloud State Huskies. SCSU is currently 14-4-0 and has made the the last three national tournaments, including the 2013 Frozen Four.

Last Time Out For The Sun Devils
Arizona State went to Omaha and was unable to secure a victory against the No. 6 Mavericks. Friday night the Sun Devils hung tight, falling 3-1 with a goal by Jordan Masters. Omaha took over Saturday night, beating the Sun Devils by a score of 6-0. Goalies Ryland Pashovitz and Robert Levin split time in the net against the Mavericks. ASU was off last weekend and the Sun Devils are 2-2 in series played following a week off.

Last Time Out For The Huskies
St. Cloud State has not played since Dec. 11-12, a two-game sweep on the road against Denver. In Game 1, Kalle Kossila had two goals and topped himself with a hat trick in the second game of the weekend. Joey Benik had the game-winning goal in both nights. Goalie Charlie Lindgren got the call during both games, collecting 17 saves Friday and 27 saves Saturday, allowing just two goals in each game.

Coach Powers On Facing St. Cloud State
"It's been a nice break and a good week of practice leading up to what will undoubtedly be some of our toughest games of the season. St. Cloud has a great program and we are looking forward to playing another team that will make us better."

Against The Huskies
Sun Devil Hockey has never played St. Cloud State. Arizona State has previously played one team from the NCHC, matching up with Nebraska Omaha Dec. 19-20 in Omaha.

Desert Hockey Classic Ticket Information
The first NCAA hockey tournament in the history of the Southwest is Jan. 8-10 at Gila River Arena in Glendale, home to the NHL’s Arizona Coyotes. Arizona State will host the tournament, with UCONN, Michigan Tech and Yale joining the inaugural Desert Hockey Classic.
