1999 Recruiting Class Roster & Biographies
TEMPE, Ariz. - Arizona State University Head Football Coach Bruce Snyder signed 26 student-athletes to national letters of intent to study and play football, ASU announced Wednesday. With five junior college signees that are enrolled at ASU now and which count toward the 1998 scholarship limit, it may be the largest Sun Devil signing day ever.
ASU may announce additional student-athlete signings at a later date.
This year's ASU class is perhaps one of the deepest in the school's history. There is quality depth from top to bottom and every position on the football field is represented. It includes a top junior college quarterback (with three years left) from California, the top junior college player (tailback Delvon Flowers) in the nation, eight defensive backs, many of whom will provide immediate help, five massive offensive linemen (average size 6-5 1/2, 312 pounds), three linebackers, two wide receivers, three defensive linemen, a placekicker, a tight end and three student-athletes listed in the "athlete" category.
The 1999 ASU class may be the most decorated in school history. For example, of the 16 incoming freshmen student-athletes in the class, 13 are listed among the top players in the Western Region by PrepStar Magazine. ASU signed 19 freshmen last year, 18 each in 1997 and 1996 and 17 in 1995.
