The ASU win...

  • Gave ASU a win in its conference opener in consecutive seasons for the first time since 2016-17 (vs. Cal, vs. Oregon).
  • Gave ASU wins in conference road openers in consecutive seasons for the first time since 2014-15 (at Colorado, at UCLA). 
  • Is the first time ASU has had consecutive seasons winning its conference opener when it is both the first conference game of the season AND the first ROAD conference game of the season since the 1960-61 seasons when ASU defeated West Texas State on the road in back-to-back seasons to opener Border Conference action. 
  • Improved ASU to 20-28-2 in conference openers since joining the Pac-10 in 1978. 

Quick Hits

  • Jaren Hamilton’s kick return in the third quarter was the first for a Sun Devil since DJ Taylor took the opening kickoff to the house in Arizona State’s 70-7 win over Arizona on Dec. 11, 2020.
  • Arizona State won a game with less than 250 yards of total offense for the first time since defeating Michigan State, 10-7, in 2019. 
  • ASU has only finished with 100 passing yards or less 11 times since 1996. This is their 5th win in those 11 contests. Two have come under Kenny Dillingham (2024 vs. Mississippi State).
  • The Sun Devils remain one of just three teams in the nation to not allow an opponent over 450 yards of offense since the start of 2024 season (Indiana, Toledo).
  • Kansas came into the game having converted 5-of-8 on fourth down through their first two games. Arizona State held them to 0-for-3 on fourth down, forcing three turnover on downs.

Finish them

  • The Sun Devils are now 19-4 under Kenny Dillingham when leading at halftime.
  • With 14 points scored in 34 seconds of gametime across the end of the first half and beginning of the second, Arizona State continues to be dominant in the “middle eight” of games under Dillingham, now with a 175-77 advantage in the category since the start of 2024 (last four minutes of first half and first four of second half). 

Hold on to your butts

  • The Sun Devils are now 11-2 over the last two-plus seasons in games decided by seven or fewer points - tied for the most such victories in the FBS.
  • Since Kenny Dillingham took the reins in 2023, 15 of the 24 Sun Devil victories in that time have been by 10 points or less.
  • The Big 12 had 30 conference games decided by eight points or fewer last season. ASU was in six of them, and went 5-1. That trend continued as the Sun Devils are 1-for-1 in the category this year.

Reed-iculous

  • The last time a Sun Devil wide receiver had at least five receiving touchdowns through each of the first three games of the season was Keith Poole in 1995 (also five touchdowns).
  • For the second straight year, a Sun Devil had at least one receiving touchdown in each of the first three games to open the season. Reed Harris accomplished the feat this season, joining Jordyn Tyson (3 TD in 3 games) who did it in 2025.

Owen Goal

  • Owen Long had one of the best performances by a Sun Devil linebacker in recent memory.
  • He was all over the field in the victory, finishing with 12 tackles, an interception, a forced fumble, and a fumble recovery.
  • It was his first career interception, second forced fumble, and third fumble recovery.
  • After finishing with ten double-digit tackle games in 2025, Long registered his first with Arizona State. He now has 11 in his career.
  • Long teamed up with fellow linebacker Martell Hughes to combine for 23 tackles and 3.5 tackles for loss.

Schedule note

  • Arizona State is the first FBS team to play a true road game one week followed by an international game seven days later since Navy in 1996, when it played an Oct. 26 game at Wake Forest followed by a contest in Ireland against Notre Dame on Nov. 2.
