The ASU victory…
- Gave ASU a much needed victory in a number of conference opener categories after the Sun Devils entered the weekend with an 18-27-2 record overall in conference openers since joining the Pac-12 in 1978, an 18-28-1 record in conference ROAD openers in that time, and a 5-13-1 record when the program’s first conference game of the year was played on the road.
- Gave ASU its first victory when the first conference game of the season was played on the road since 2014 at Colorado.
- Gave ASU its fourth consecutive victory in a conference road game dating back to last season, which is its longest since a six-game stretch between the 2013 and 2014 seasons.
- Gave ASU its seventh-straight victory over a Big 12 opponent dating back to last season.
- Ended Baylor’s six-game winning streak in Big 12 games dating back to last season.
- Improved ASU to 3-1 to start the year for a second straight season, notable as the program is officially credited with just six total wins between the 2020-23 seasons.
- Moved ASU to 3-0 under CKD in games that were tied at halftime.
A hand in the cookie jar
- Arizona State moves to 12-0 since the beginning of the 2024 season when the Sun Devils win the turnover battle after scoring a 3-0 advantage on Saturday.
- The Sun Devils forced two fumbles with recoveries and intercepted another ball for a season-high three takeaways in the contest.
- ASU forced and recovered a fumble on the first drive of the game for its first turnover forced to open a game since the Kansas State contest last season. It was the first time ASU forced and recovered a fumble specifically on the first drive since the 70-7 victory over Arizona in 2020.
A strong finish
- ASU won its fourth game since the start of last season in which it was tied or trailing at some point in the fourth quarter
- The fourth quarter had been ASU’s weakest this season, scoring just 17 points in the frame through three games and being outscored 19-17 before scoring 14 in the final quarter tonight.
Air Jordyn
- Jordyn Tyson recorded a touchdown reception in five straight games heading into the season.
- Tyson’s fourth quarter touchdown snag on Saturday was his ninth touchdown in the fourth quarter of a game in his career (eight receiving, one punt return) - the most of any player in the country since the start of his freshman season in 2022.
- His FBS-leading streak of 11-straight games recording at least 60 receiving yards did, however, come to a close.
Key to the game
- Linebacker Keyshaun Elliott recorded a team leading 10 tackles with two coming for loss and a sack.
- Elliott now has a tackle for loss in each of ASU’s four games this season and a sack in three of those.
- His 30 tackles for the year are second on the team behind fellow linebacker Jordan Crook (33) and he leads the team with 5.0 tackles for loss and 3.0 sacks.
Getting defensive
- Baylor entered the game averaging 517.3 yards of offense per game and 38.0 points per game, ranking 14th and 39th in the FBS, respectively, before being held to 357 yards and 24 points on Saturday.
- Baylor was averaging 41.3 points per game during its six-game Big 12 winning streak coming into the contest.
- Baylor’s 24 points were its fewest in a home Big 12 game since Nov. 4, 2023 vs. Houston (24-25 OT) - a streak of six games.
- Baylor QBs were fourth in the country in averaging 368.0 passing yards per game before having just 250 on Saturday.
- Since 2018, ASU has held opponents to the 400 or less mark for total offensive yards on 50 occasions over 85 games (58.8 percent of the time). For comparison, ASU accomplished the feat just 24 times in the 65 previous games (36.9 percent) from 2013-2017. The team has accomplished the feat 21 times in 30 games (70.0 percent) under Kenny Dillingham and Brian Ward.
- ASU has held opponents to 30 points or less in 57 of 85 games since 2018 (67.1 percent). This is notable as it DID allow 30+ in 32 of the 43 previous games (74.4 percent) in a span from 2013- 17. ASU has accomplished this 23 times in 30 games (76.7) under Kenny Dillingham and Brian Ward.
- ASU has held its three opponents after the opener to fewer points than they were averaging per game coming into the contest (Miss St. 24/34.0, Texas State 15/47.5, Baylor 24/38.0) ASU was 11 for 14 in holding opponents under their season scoring average last year, following the season opener: Mississippi State (23/56.0), Texas State (28/41.5), Texas Tech (30/44.7), Utah (19/28.3), Cincinnati (24/31.0), Oklahoma State (21/30.5), UCF (31/33.2) Kansas State (14/31.2), BYU (21/31.6), Arizona (7/23.1), Iowa State (19/31.2).
Sweet Jesus
- Jesus Gomez’s game-winner was ASU’s first walk-off field goal since Sept. 18, 2018 when Brandon Ruiz hit a 28-yarder to knock off Michigan State.
- Gomez’s four field goals were the most since Carter Brown had four against NAU on Sept. 1, 2022.
- Gomez moved to 9-for-10 on field goal attempts for the season - notable as the team kicked just 11 field goals (11-for-20) TOTAL last season. His lone miss came on a 57-yard attempt at the end of the first half against NAU.
- Gomez’s four made FG’s is a career-high and it is his seventh career game making 3+ field goals in a contest.

- Sam Leavitt ran and passed for a touchdown in the same game for the fifth time in his career and third time in four games this season (NAU, Texas State).
