Following a four-year playing career with the Sun Devil Men’s Basketball program, Bobby Hurley will now become a staff member. He is following in his father, uncle, and grandfather’s footsteps in pursuing a career in coaching.
“I appreciate the opportunity to learn from a great staff, especially Coach Hurley,” Hurley Jr. remarked. “Playing in the program for the last four seasons has helped prepare me to help future Sun Devil Men’s Basketball players.”
Hurley will be the Director of Analytics and Strategy with Arizona State Men’s Basketball. In the new age of college basketball, analytics has become increasingly essential to the program’s operation. Hurley will be in charge of implementing an analytics-based strategy in the game plan preparation process.
Having played the past four seasons for Hurley at Arizona State, the younger Hurley has a unique perspective on how the program functions. Hurley saw action in 31 games during his career and was a part of the 2022-23 team that made a run to the NCAA Tournament and defeated Nevada in the opening round. His high basketball IQ allowed him to be already involved in game-planning as a player.
His recent background in the system and connections with the current roster players will be a significant benefit to the coaching staff. In the spring of 2024, he graduated from Arizona State with a BA in sports journalism.
