Randy Policar

TitleAssistant Director of Sun Devil Tradition and Growth

Randy Policar returned to Sun Devil Athletics in January 2026 as Assistant Director of Sun Devil Tradition and Growth after previously serving as Assistant Sports Information Director from 2005 to 2011.

In this role, Policar serves as the archivist and historian for Sun Devil Athletics, collecting and cataloging artifacts that represent the history of Arizona State’s 26 varsity sports. He also curates the Bill and Judy Schaefer Hall of Fame, located in the Carson Student Athlete Center at Mountain America Stadium. Additionally, Policar oversees Sun Devil Authentics, the memorabilia program that brings game-used and team-issued items directly to Sun Devil fans. He also assists with Letterwinner outreach, helping to connect past Sun Devils with their alma mater.

After leaving ASU following the 2011 football season, Policar spent 10 years in municipal government, serving as the Public Information Officer for the City of Mesa, Arizona City Council, as well as four years in Strategic Communications for HDR Engineering.

During his time as Sports Information Director, Policar worked with the Sun Devil Football and Baseball programs and the Volleyball team. He helped with publicity for the 2007 Pac-10 Champion football team and four Bowl teams (Insight, Hawai’i, Holiday, Las Vegas). With the baseball program, Policar was part of four consecutive Pac-10 Championship teams and made three trips to Omaha for the College World Series. He also served as the Public Address Announcer at historic Packard Stadium for five seasons.

He is a 2002 graduate of Arizona State’s Walter Cronkite School of Journalism and Mass Communications with a degree in broadcasting, working as a student assistant in the Sports Information Office all four years he was in school. A Seattle native, Randy lives in Tempe with his wife, Leslie, and their son, Jacob.
