Mike Chismar started with Sun Devil Athletics in 1980. He plays an intricate role in the leadership of Sun Devil Athletics as the Senior Associate Athletics Director for Operations and Facilities. His main area of emphasis is internal operations, including event management; special events, camps and procurement, as well as oversight of all Sun Devil Athletics’ Physical Plant and subsequent construction projects. Chismar also currently oversees Equipment Operations, Information Technology Services, serves as the liaison to the department’s food service provider, is a member of the ASU Sustainability team and has spent over two decades coordinating all football team travel arrangements. This includes postseason travel and the football team’s annual summer trip to Camp Tontozona in Payson. During his administrative tenure, Chismar has provided leadership and management for Marketing & Revenue Generation, Media Relations, Sports Medicine and Sports Performance and Marketing & Promotions.

Chismar has been the coordinator of numerous high-profile events at Arizona State University throughout his career, including the Fiesta and Cactus Bowls, the NFL’s Arizona Cardinals and assisted in Super Bowl XXX in 1996.

In 2003 Chismar and the Sun Devil Athletics Operations team took great pride in assisting the NFL and the City of San Diego in hosting the Chargers and Dolphins in a Monday Night Football game. With less than a 24-hour notice, the game was moved to Sun Devil Stadium due to wildfires in Southern California.  

Chismar has also headed-up the 2013 Pac-12 Football Championship Game and most recently was a member of the Phoenix Final Four Local Organizing Committee’s (LOC) Board of Directors. He has also served as the Tournament Manager for the NCAA Men’s Basketball West Regional Championships on four different occasions, the Tournament Manager for the NCAA Women’s Golf National Championships and throughout his tenure has served as the Tournament Manager for NCAA women’s basketball, baseball, golf, softball, gymnastics and tennis postseason events.

Chismar annually oversees commencement exercises in Sun Devil Stadium and in preparation for President Obama’s visit to ASU for the 2009 Spring Commencement, Chismar served as the lead venue contact and provided logistical support for the U.S. Secret Service and Federal Agents.

In addition, Chismar has played a primary role in the construction of numerous athletic facilities at ASU. Chismar has served as the Sun Devil Athletics representative for the $315M reinvention of Sun Devil Stadium, construction of the Carson Student-Athlete Center and subsequent upgrades, Farrington Softball Stadium, Sun Devil Soccer Stadium, Verde Dickey Dome (SDA’s indoor practice facility), the Weatherup Center Basketball Facility, and renovations at Phoenix Municipal Stadium along with the Student-Athlete Facility completed in July 2017.  While continuing to work daily on the final phases of renovation to Sun Devil Stadium, Chismar is currently overseeing construction of new athletic fields being built at the Verde Dickey East Athletic Village. 

Chismar, an Arizona State University graduate, began his Sun Devil career as Equipment Coordinator in 1980. He has been involved in collegiate athletics his entire life, as his father, the late Ron Chismar, was a Sun Devil Football assistant coach from 1980-1983 under the late ASU Sports Hall of Fame Head Coach Darryl Rogers.

A native of Canton, Ohio, he is married to the former Jina Solis. The Chismars have a daughter, Hannah, and a son Matthew. The Chismar family reside in Chandler.
