--New assistant Brown excited to get started at ASU under Hurley (by Chris Karpman, Sun Devil Source/June 5, 2019)

Los Angeles native and 21-year DI assistant coach veteran Eric Brown joined Bobby Hurley’ staff in summer of 2019 after working for three seasons at UNLV (2016-2019), nine seasons at Long Beach State (2007-2016), one season at Iowa State (2005-2006), four seasons at USC (2001-2005) and three seasons at Cal State Northridge (1999-01).

After his first season with the Runnin' Rebels, he helped bring in a recruiting class for the 2017-18 season that was ranked as high as No. 12 in the country and included McDonald's High School All-American Brandon McCoy. While at UNLV Brown also recruited Shakur Juiston (2016 National JC Player of Year), Bryce Hamilton (2020 First Team Mountain West Conference), Ethan Anderson (Current USC PG) as well as local talents Noah Robothom, Nick Blair and Marvin Coleman

The 2017-18 team won 20 games, which marked the first 20-victory campaign for UNLV in four years. It was also a nine-game improvement in the win column over the previous season. Brown’s on court responsibilities included offensive coordinator, scouting and working with team’s perimeter players. Brown helped Amauri Hardy, Kris Clyburn and Bryce Hamilton develop on the perimeter. With Brown's involvement the team also performed academically, setting program records with a 3.17 grade point average for spring 2018 and back-to-back semesters with a collective GPA of at least 3.0.

Brown came to Las Vegas after spending the previous nine years as an assistant coach for Dan Monson at Long Beach State where he helped lead the 49ers to three Big West Conference regular-season titles, three NIT appearances and a spot in the 2012 NCAA Tournament. During that three-year conference run Long Beach State had a conference record of 43-7.

During Brown's time at Long Beach State as the offensive coordinator, the team boasted a high scoring offense. In 2015-16, Long Beach State averaged 74.0 points per game, second in the Big West and shot 37 percent from 3-point range, a percentage that was best in the conference. The 49ers also made a school record 287 3-pointers in 2015-16. On the floor Brown worked with both the team’s perimeter and post players as well conducted scouting.

While at Long Beach State Brown recruited and helped develop All-Big West Conference Players Casper Ware, Larry Anderson, Eugene Phelps, T.J. Robinson, James Ennis, Mike Caffey, Dan Jennings, David Samuels, Gabe Levin, Nick Faust, Justin Bibbins, Travis Hammonds, Stephan Gilling and Donovan Morris. Ennis and Ware have both played in the NBA.

At USC under Henry Bibby, his duties included offensive coordinator, recruiting coordinator, scouting and the development of both USC’s post and perimeter players. In his first year with the team, USC’s offense posted several marks that were among the school’s all-time top 10. The Trojans' scoring average in 2003 (76.5) and 2004 (75.4) were among the top 45 in the country. USC's forwards and centers earned numerous honors during his time with the Trojans. Jeff McMillan (2004 Pac-10 Newcomer of the Year) and forward Sam Clancy (2002 Pac-10 Player of the Year).  Brown also helped Nick Young, Gabe Pruitt, Brandon Granville, Errick Craven, Desmond Farmer and David Bluethenthal develop on the perimeter.

As a recruiter, Brown signed three players at USC that were ranked in the top 100 nationally as well as 2004 McDonalds All-American Robert Swift. In the 2007 NBA Draft, Brown had two players he recruited to USC realize their NBA dreams. Nick Young was a lottery pick by the Washington Wizards and Gabe Pruitt went in the second round to the Boston Celtics.

At Iowa State he worked with the ISU perimeter players, including all-conference selections Curtis Stinson and Will Blaylock as well conducted scouting. The Cyclones led the Big 12 in scoring that season at 76.6 points per game and Blaylock finished ninth in the nation in assists. Blaylock was a second-round pick in 2006 NBA Draft. Stinson was the 2011 NBA D-League Most Valuable Player.

At Cal State Northridge under Bobby Braswell, he helped lead the Matadors to their first NCAA Tournament appearance in school history in 2001. In three years, he coached eight All-Big Sky players, including 2001 Big Sky Conference MVP Brian Heinle and 2001 First Team All-Big Sky Conference point guard Markus Carr. In 2001 Carr led the nation in assists per game. In Browns’ final season at CSUN he signed six players, three of those players Brown earned 2002 Big West All-Freshman honors, including three-time first-team All-Big West selection and 2004 Big West Tournament MVP Ian Boylan.

Brown was named one of the Top 25 Assistant Coach Recruiters at the mid-major level by a panel of national media, scouts and former coaches, and was No. 3 in 2011 on the Basketball Times list of the Top 50 "Low to Mid-Major Assistant Coaches." As an assistant coach, Brown has coached four NCAA Tournament teams at four different programs.

A Los Angeles native, Brown lettered four years at Grant High School and played a year at Valley College in 1993. He received his bachelor degree from Cal State Northridge in sociology in 1998.

Brown began his coaching career at Grant High in Van Nuys (1995-97). While there, he coached a pair of all-city players, including former Washington Wizard guard and NBA All-Star Gilbert Arenas. From there he served as an assistant coach at Los Angeles Valley College in 1998 where he helped the Monarchs to a 22-10 mark. Brown recruited five players from the 1998 L.A. Valley team who went on to play for Division I schools.
