Alonzo Jones

TitleAssociate AD, Championship Life
InstagramSport Administrator: Xc, T&F
An experienced administrator who has more than 30 years of experience working in higher education, Alonzo Jones joined Sun Devil Athletics as associate athletic director for inclusion and championship life in March 2016.

In his role, Jones oversees the development and application of programs that help mentor and develop Sun Devil student-athletes throughout their time on campus. These programs provide student-athletes with life skills that not only help them navigate their way through college, but also prepare them for the challenges they will encounter after graduation.

Jones has dedicated his career to managing and creating programs that support the academic, personal and cultural development of students. Prior to his current appointment, Jones worked on ASU’s main campus for 16 years, the last eight of which he served as associate dean of students for educational outreach & student services.

Throughout his time at ASU – both while working on campus and now with Sun Devil Athletics – Jones has led university-wide efforts to elevate engagement in culturally-related programs and events across the university. Jones’ credentials include membership with the A. Wade Smith Memorial Lecture on Race Relations in addition to serving as former the Chair for the Public Safety Advisory Council and as University Chair of the Committee for Campus Inclusion.

Outside of ASU, Jones is often asked to speak to schools, colleges and universities around the country. His lectures address contemporary issues such as the state of secondary and higher education and popular culture's impact on shaping the priorities of young urban youth. In addition to educational institutions, Jones’ past audiences have also included municipalities, the NCAA and NFL.

Jones, who holds a bachelor’s degree in Justice Studies from ASU and a Masters in Developmental Education from Texas State University, has received multiple awards for service, including the ASU College of Liberal Arts Distinctive Alumni Award, the Ned Tibby College Board Scholarship of Excellence, and the NAACP Roy Wilkins Service Award.
