Greg Werner is the Aquatics Manager of the Mona Plummer Aquatic Center and is responsible for facility scheduling, staffing, operations and maintenance, as well as budget oversight. Additionally, Werner serves as the Event Coordinator for ASU's Swimming, Diving, Water Polo, and Triathlon events, as well as the liaison for MPAC-hosted community events.
Since his hire in March 2015, Werner has served as the Tournament Director of two Mountain Pacific Sports Federation Women’s Water Polo Championships, has helped plan, coordinate and manage six ASU-hosted Collegiate National Triathlon Championships, managed over 75 NCAA D1 Swimming & Diving meets, and in excess of 60 community swimming, diving and water polo events.
Before Werner arrived in Tempe, he was an NCAA Swimming Coach for 29 years. He coached water polo for five years, including four NCAA Division 1 swimming and diving top-four team finishes, four Mid-American Conference team championships, and four Mid-American Conference Coach of the Year honors. Werner was a member of the USA Swimming National Team Managerial program for 16 years and represented the USA on eight occasions, including three FINA World Championships (2005-09). Additionally, Werner has taught Theory of Swimming and Sports Psychology classes at the university level and has presented at American Swim Coaches Association clinics.
Werner is a Certified Pool Operator, a Lifetime Member of USA Swimming and retired from coaching as an ASCA Level 5 member. Gilbert residents, Werner and his wife Courtney, are the proud parents of a son, Tucker and a daughter, Kennedy. When not at the pool, Werner can be found at his kids’ youth soccer games, school band concerts or on family trips to our National Parks and great outdoors.
