Simon Percy has spent the past three seasons coaching sprints and middle distance at his alma mater. This past season, Percy helped drop multiple athletes' times including this year's most improved recipient, Eddy Salcido. Max Laney, Nolan Ruane and Vinicius Waked's also saw their times drop immensely under the guidance of Percy.
Percy was instrumental in the reinstatement of the men's team. As an ASU alumnus, he was well positioned to organize a effort to reinstate the men's team and begin the process of raising an endowment to secure the lon term future of the program. Prior to the initial cutting of the team, Percy was the Men's recruiting coordinator for the No. 2 recruiting class in the nation.
Along with his responsibilities as an ASU assistant swimming coach, Percy is also the Sun Devil Masters head coach in addition to recruiting activities. The 13-year coaching veteran has coached numerous Master's World Champions and Master's World Record Holders.
Percy was a standout in the backstroke and IM events for the Sun Devils from 1990-94. He was recruited to join the ASU team after the 1990 Commonwealth Games where he reached the final of the 100 back. He earned All-American status in 1993 and 1994 in the 200 back and 200 IM. He is fourth on ASU's all-time list in the 200 back, fifth in the 200 IM and eighth in the 400 IM.
Along with his accomplishments at ASU, Percy has represented his native country of New Zealand in the 1991 World Championships, the 1992 Barcelona Olympic Games and the 1991 and 1992 Pan-Pacific. He reached the final 50 back at the 1991 World Championships in Perth, Australia, which was the only time that event was held in a World Championship. Percy also came in third in the 200 back at the 1991 Pan-Pacific Championships in Edmonton, Alberta, Canada.
