Heralded Setter Joins ASU Volleyball's Rebuilding - Jeff Metcalf, Arizona Republic
2012 (Junior):
Named to the All-Tournament team at UTEP's El Paso Sports Commission Invitational after compiling 54 digs, seven assists and two service aces. Preach was named to an all-tournament team for consecutive weeks, this time for the UCI/LMU Dual Classic. The junior posted 27 assists and 118 digs (4.92/set) over the weekend, including a then season-best 27 digs at Loyola Marymount. Closed out the tournament portion of the schedule being named to ASU's Sheraton Invitational All-Tournament Team after tallying 62 digs and 11 assists during ASU's 4-0 weekend. Had a season best 30 digs at No. 5 USC and nine assists against Colgate. Prior to the start of the 2012 season, had 841 career digs and has rolled to 1460 to rank fourth all-time at ASU. Her season dig mark of 619 ranks fourth in single-season digs. Is one of just 16 Sun Devil volleyball players to surpass 1,000 digs in their career. Named Pac-12 All-Academic Honorable Mention for the second time in her career.
2011 (Sophomore):
One of two Devils to play in all 116 sets for the Devils, starting all 31 matches as libero. Had 610 digs on the season with a 5.26 average, best on the team and first overall in the Pac-12, finishing 32nd nationally. Also recorded 24 service aces, first overall on the squad. Notched 53 assists, third most for ASU. Season-best of two service aces occurred in six matches. Most digs came against USC on Oct. 8 with 43, which is tied for fourth best in program history. Received Pac-12 Defensive Player of the Week honors for the week of Nov. 14, the 15th Player of the Week for ASU all-time and first since Sept. 30, 2002. Was named to Pac-12 All-Academic Honorable Mention team.
2010 (Freshman):
Had a major impact her freshman year playing in 101 sets. Finished second on the team in with 117 assists and 317 digs. Also posted 14 service aces.
High School:
A 2010 graduate of Xavier College Preparatory in Phoenix, Ariz., where she was a four-time letterwinner in volleyball. Preach also captained the Gator squad for two seasons. Awards include Gatorade Player of the Year in 2008-2009 and 2009-2010, All-Arizona Team in 2007-09, First Team All-State 2007-2009 and Under Armour All-American. Was a member of the Arizona Volleyball Academy. Preach was a member of National Honors Society and was honored with a Scholar-Athlete Award. Lists winning state as her most exciting moment in sports. Played club ball for Arizona Volleyball Academy.
Personal:
A communication major with a minor in psychology, her full name is Stephanie Michelle Preach. Parents are Brett and Debra Preach of Phoenix, Ariz. RJ Preach played for ASU baseball from 2006-08, and sister Kristen plays volleyball for Grand Canyon. Is the youngest of four, with three sisters: Lindsay, Kristen and Lacey. Born Aug. 26, 1991 in Phoenix, Ariz.
