- A 2011 graduate of Point Loma High School in San Diego, Calif. Was a four-time letter winner for the Pointers under co-head coaches Mike Placek and Davis Kansen.
- Played setter and libero positions, Checkal was all-league, team MVP, and captain for four years. Also played varsity soccer her freshman year.
- Made the honor roll twice and was named the Union Tribune All-Academic Athlete her senior year (2011).

Full name is Jordan Lyn Checkal. Parents are Brian and Michelle Checkal of San Diego, Calif. Has one brother, Dillon. Born Feb. 20, 1993 in San Diego, Calif. Majoring in special events, with a minor in family and human development. Brother played baseball at UC San Diego, cousin Clayton Marzo is a professional surfer, and cousin Noah Ransik plays baseball at Hibert State.
