Career Overview: 

  • A transfer out of the University of Kansas with two years of postseason experience under her belt.
     
  • Leading the pitching staff into 2017 after leading all ASU pitchers with 12 wins in 2016. 

Redshirt Junior (2016):

  • Led team with 2.90 ERA for 2016 season. 
  • Pitched a one-hit shutout in which she faced the minimum 21 batters in a seven-inning game against LIU Brooklyn to advance to a Regional Final.
  • Pitched a no-no in 6.0 IP in the series opener against Texas Tech and earned all three wins in the series.
  • Pitched 11.0 innings and well over 150 pitches on the final day of the Judi Garman Classic, earning the victory in both games with a complete game effort against Northwestern before pitching four scoreless innings in relief against No. 24 Baylor.

  • Went 2-0 in two starts and added two saves as well at the Littlewood Classic, getting a win or a save in each of her four appearances on the weekend. Struck out 23 batters on the weekend and allowed just three walks (7.7:1 ratio) and finished with a 1.83 ERA.
  • Against Illinois St., Kessler dropped the hammer in her frist seven inning complete game out of the year. Shut out the Redbirds in a 6-0 victory, striking out 12 and walking none while allowing just two hits.
     
  • Kicked off her Sun Devil career with a solid start, pitching a complete game shut out against San Jose State to earn the 8-0 victory.
  • Finished opening weekend with a 1.75 ERA and 10 strikeouts with just two walks.

Kansas: 

  • In 2014, Kessler took over the reins as the Jayhawks’ primary ace in the circle as she helped KU to a 34-23 record overall and led the team to its second consecutive appearance in the NCAA Tournament.

  • As a sophomore, Kessler finished with a 20-15 record in 35 starts with a 2.47 ERA and 250 strikeouts – a total that was good for 22nd in the nation in 2014. She gave up five or more runs just six times in her 43 appearances on the season.

  • As a freshman at KU, Kessler was stellar as she posted a 12-6 overall record with a 2.19 ERA en route to All-Big 12 Second-Team honors.  She was 7-3 with a 2.22 ERA in conference play, which was good for the most Big 12 wins by a Jayhawk since the 2001 season.

  • On the season she pitched a no-hitter against Texas Tech and was one of just two players pitchers in the country to shut out eventual NCAA Champion Oklahoma, KU’s first victory in program history over a top-ranked opponent.

High School: 

  • Lettered four times at Blue Springs High in Blue Springs, Mo. under coach Jim Brandner.
     
  • As a freshman was All-State, Metro, Region, Conference, Area and District, KMBC Athlete of the week, ESPN Rise National Female Player of the Week, named to ESPN Rise's Nine to Watch list, Examiner Player of the Year, Team MVP, broke state records for single-season winning percentage, wins in a season and RBIs in a championship game.
     
  • Eight no-hitters, three perfect games, 19 shutouts and was 30-0 as a freshman and team finished 31-0 on the season.
     
  • In her sophomore year she was All-State, Metro, Region, Conference, Area and District and finished 18-4 on the season, threw a no-hitter and led the team to a 22-5 record.
     
  • As a junior, was All-State, Metro, Region, Conference, Area and District and was Team MVP for the second time and was 24-2 with three no-hitters to lead her team to a 26-2 record.
     
  • As a senior she was All-State, Metro, Region, Conference, Area and District and she was the first athlete in school history to be All-State for four years while setting the Missouri record for career wins (93).

Personal: Born Kelsey Lynn Kessler... Daughter of Robert and Lanette Kessler... three cousins Holly, Brandi and Michelle play softball for Truman State, MSSU and Avila, respectively...
