
Junior (2013):
Has bested her single-game records in four categories through non-conference play. Had a great outing against Virginia Tech on March 15, getting two hits, one RBI, one walk, one double and two runs scored. Hit her first career triple on Feb. 28 and double on March 1 bothagainst North Dakota. In a four game hitting streak, she went 1-for-1 against East Carolina with two runs scored and one RBI on March 2. Started season as a pinch runner, has moved to a starting spot in the outfield.
Sophomore (2012):
Saw playing time in six games while scoring one run against Howard on March 3.
Freshman (2011):
Appeared in 29 games and started two for the Devils in her first season, notching 10 runs and three RBI. Also recorded a .316 on-base percentage and three walks.
High School:
Spiel joins the 2011 ASU Softball team for her first season as a Sun Devil after an illustrious career at Corona Del Sol. A 2010 graduate, Mary lettered in softball and golf for the Aztecs as well as captaining the softball squad for two seasons. She was name All-State in her sophomore and senior years as well as All-City three of her seasons for Corona. In addition to starring for Corona Del Sol, she was also a key member to the Hotshots Club Team and lists her most exciting moment in sports as when she hit a homerun off (current ASU teammate) Sam Parlich her sophomore year in the state game.
Personal:
The communications major was born to James and Kimbra Spiel and has one sister, Abigail. Her Uncle Mike was a former quarterback for the Wisconsin Badgers and her full name is Mary Danielle Spiel. Hobbies include golfing, shopping and running.
