Senior (2002):
A pitcher and designated player, Beach led the Sun Devils to the NCAA Tournament all four seasons with two Women's College World Series appearances in 1999 and 2002. She was named to the 2002 WCWS All-Tournament Team as a pitcher and was a three-time All-Pac-10 honoree. Named Pac-10 Player of the Week (4/8) and Pitcher of the Week (Feb. 18), giving her a weekly conference honor each year of her career. Also strong in the classroom, Beach was a First Team Verizon Academic All-American in 2001. Beach earned her bachelor's degree in Broadcasting from ASU in 2003. Was named First-Team All-American as a freshman, in 1999.
Junior (2001):
Set a new career high with 17 wins and 134 strikeouts and the school record for most career home runs (20) and runs batted in (121). She is seventh all-time in career wins (46) and strikeouts (300). Named NFCA National Player of the Week (4/11), the Pac-10 Player of the Week (4/9) and Pac-10 Pitcher of the Week (5/7). Is the only player in the Pac-10 to earn both pitcher and player of the week honors. Earned first-team Verizon Academic All-American honors and first-team Pac-10 Academic honors, second-team All-Pacific Region, second-team All Pac-10 accolades, and named the team's MVP and co-Scholar-Athlete. Finished fourth in the Pac-10 in innings pitched (223), tied for third in the Pac-10 with three saves, played in all 58 games, missing only one start. Beach led the team with seven home runs and 25 walks, posted a .484 slugging percentage, tallied 12 RBI with two outs, third most on the team, hit .500 with the bases loaded, had 11 multi-hit games and eight multi-RBI games, made 46 pitching appearances, had a 1.35 earned-run average and posted five shutouts. Held opponents to a .192 batting average. Member of the Phoenix Storm National Champions at the ASA Women's Major Fast Pitch National Championships, fifth-place finishers at the prestigious Canada Cup, highest finish of non-Olympic team. Second-team ASA All-American; awarded Canada Cup Round Robin All-Star Award for a pitcher.
Sophomore (2000):
Earned first-team All-Pacific Region honors, Pac-10 honorable mention pick, Pac-10 Player of the Week honors (3/14), named to the Region V All-Tournament team after recording a 1-0 pitching record with seven strikeouts and batting in a team-high five RBI. Set single-season school records for runs batted in (48) and home runs (8), hit .339 with a .521 slugging percentage and a .446 on-base percentage, hit .420 with runners in scoring position. Recorded 13 multi-hit games and one four hit game, led the team in multi-RBI games with 11, had five three RBI games, two four RBI games and one five RBI game. Is sixth all-time in career batting average (.334) and third all-time in home runs (13), sixth all-time in RBI (87), tallied 13 wins in the circle with 78 strikeouts, third team ASA All-American.
Freshman (1999):
Earned first-team NFCA All-American honors, first-team All-Pacific Region accolades, second-team All Pac-10 choice, Pac-10 Pitcher of the Week (2/16), Region Six Championship All-Tournament team. Played in all 69 games, missing only two starts. Led the team in at-bats (203), batting average (.330), hits (67) and total bases (93). Recorded 11 doubles and five home runs, had a .458 slugging percentage, ranked seventh all-time in home runs, third all-time in a single-season in RBI production (39), sixth in hits and tenth in doubles (11). Recorded a 16-14 mark in the circle, had eight shutouts, fired a perfect game against California (5/2), only the second time in school history, made 47 appearances and had 88 strikeouts. Earned 1999 Women's Major Fast Pitch first-team All-American honors. Played for the national champion runner up Phoenix Storm (DH).
High School:
A 1998 graduate of Chaparral High School in Scottsdale, Ariz. Beach is a two-time first-team NFCA All-American, four-time first-team All-West Region honors, three-time Pitcher of the Year, `98 Gatorade Mountain Region Softball Player of the Year, `98 third-team All-American selection 18U Gold Nationals. She was a three-time first-team all-state honoree, 1998 Pitcher and Player of the Year by the Arizona Republic and won four-consecutive state high school championships. Beach posted a 24-3 record with 278 strikeouts and a 0.27 ERA in `98 and also had 18 shutouts and four no-hitters that same season. During her four-year career she tallied an 88-6 record with a 0.24 ERA. A member of the ASA's Phoenix Storm national team, she once pitched five games in a single day at nationals. Lettered four times in softball and three times in badminton at CHS.
Professional Career:
Erica Beach was named the fourth New Mexico head softball coach in school history on June 17, 2010. Beach came to UNM from Ohio State where she was a successful assistant for four seasons (2006-10).
In the fall of 2003, Beach began her professional career in Europe playing for the Sparks Haarlem in The Netherlands. She led the team to the 2003 European Cup championship and was named the European Cup Most Outstanding Pitcher. In 2004 and 2005, she played for the Arizona Heat in the National Pro Fastpitch League and was an All-Star in 2004. From 2006-08, Beach helped lead the New England Riptide to the NPF championship.
Personal:
Earned her bachelor of arts in broadcasting in May of 2003. Parents are Richard and Lori Beach of Scottsdale, Ariz., she has two older sisters, Leah and Nicole. Erica was born December 3, 1979 in Shawnee Mission, Kansas. Her full name is Erica Suzanne Beach.
