One of the best third basemen in the game, Krista Donnenwirth lines up for her final season as a Sun Devil after three seasons that easily place her in contention with some of the best ASU has ever seen. A career .328 hitter, she has 26 doubles and 29 home runs to her name, placing her seventh all-time in ASU career history. Her 146 RBIs also notch her a career list as she's currently sixth all-time in ASU history. A dominant threat at the plate, opposing pitchers choose to pitch around her on several occasions as she's an ever imminent RBI threat. Another phenomenal trait that Donnenwirth brings to the table is her quick glove and lightning-fast release as she holds a .955 fielding percentage holding down the hot corner at third base. Wrapping up the 2010 season, Krista was honored again with an Honorable Mention on the All Pac-10 team as well as being named to the Pac-10 All-Academic Second Team.
Krista also posted a phenomenal freshman season in 2008 which saw her named an NFCA Third-Team All-American, First-Team All Pac-10 and Pac-10 Newcomer of the Year. While her defensive work at the hot corner at third was a highlight of the Devil D, her offensive prowess at the plate is what made her a feared brand name across the country. Hitting .354 on the 2008 season, Krista launched 15 home runs on the season to tie the fourth highest ASU single-season record. Krista also scored 37 runs on the year for 75 hits, good for sixth all-time in ASU single-season records. Her .636 slugging percentage struck fear in pitchers as she also put 14 doubles on her tab as well throughout the season. While launching a home run at the World Series to edge Texas A&M in game one of the championship series was a highlight for Donnenwirth she also hit two longballs against Arizona on April 19 to help seal a sweep of the Wildcats for the first time in 20 years.
Donnenwirth hails from Mission Viejo, Calif., where she was a letterwinner in both softball and basketball, both of which teams she captained in her high school career. While a member of the Capistrano Valley Cougars softball squad, Krista was named First Team All-CIF, South Coast All-League and League MVP. A menace at the plate, Krista hit .508 in her junior season and .447 in her senior season as well at hitting .750 at Gold Nationals, which she lists as her most exciting sports moment. No slacker in the classroom, Krista was also named to her high schools Honor Roll throughout her four years.
