A veteran athletic trainer who has worked with athletes at the college, professional and international ranks, Josh Beaumont was named assistant athletic trainer for Sun Devil Athletics in August 2012 and promoted to associate athletic trainer in 2017. His primary responsibility is working with the Sun Devil women’s soccer program and previously has overseen care for the Sun Devil softball and wrestling programs. He chairs the Sun Devil Athletics Research and Technology Committee.
In partnership with the ASU Hugh Downs School of Communications, he is member of a research team that was awarded a $400,000 grant as a winner of the NCAA Mind Matters Challenge. That project examined at concussion reporting behaviors of collegiate athletes. He is currently pursuing a Ph.D in the Exercise and Nutritional Sciences program at ASU. He was awarded the 2018 Gary DeForge Scholarship from the National Athletic Trainers’ Association Research and Education Foundation and the 2018 Dr. Earlene Durant Ph.D scholarship from the Rocky Mountain Athletic Trainers’ Association.
Additionally, Beaumont serves as President of the Soccer Athletic Trainers’ Society and on the Board of Directors of the Arizona Athletic Trainers’ Association. He hold certifications in myofascial decompression and Graston technique.
Prior to his appointment at ASU, Beaumont served as an athletic trainer with the U.S. Soccer National teams at multiple levels including the women’s national team, men’s Olympic team, Futsal, Beach and various youth national teams. He worked with the women’s national team in their preparatory camps for the 2012 London Olympics. He also worked with the men’s Olympic team in CONCACAF qualifying.
From 2006-11, Beaumont served as the head athletic trainer for CD Chivas USA of Major League Soccer. He worked with the club during its most successful stint, which included a Western Conference regular season title and four playoff appearances.
From 2001-06, Beaumont served as an assistant athletic trainer and adjunct instructor for Florida Atlantic University. His sport responsibilities included women’s soccer (2001-05) and football (2005-06).
During the 2000-01 academic year, he was an assistant athletic trainer at University of Maryland Baltimore County (UMBC), where he was responsible for the care of the men's soccer, women's basketball, and baseball squads, in addition to overseeing the education of student athletic trainers.
Beaumont, who started his career as an athletic trainer at Uniontown (Pennsylvania) and Ragsdale (North Carolina) high schools, earned his undergraduate degree in Sports Medicine with a minor in Biology from Guilford College in North Carolina. While at Guilford, he served as head student athletic trainer for women's basketball and soccer. He was awarded the David Martin MD, Most Improved Athletic Trainer Award and was named to the Guilford College Dean's List in 1995 and 1998 and the Old Dominion Athletic Conference All-Academic Team in 1995-96, 1997-98. Beaumont, lettered in soccer, and was captain of the lacrosse team would go on to earn his M.S. with honors in Athletic Training from California University of Pennsylvania.
A presenter at the 2002, 2007, 2011 and 2013 National Athletic Trainers' Association National Symposium, Beaumont has been published in the Journal of Athletic Training, FFI soccer magazine, and the International Journal of Sports Physical Therapy. In 2011, he co-founded 90Strong.com, a soccer-specific strength and conditioning website. He has served as an Approved Clinical Instructor/ Clinical Preceptor at several universities, including Long Beach State, Azusa Pacific, Chapman, Palm Beach Atlantic, Northern Arizona, and Grand Canyon.
Beaumont has served as an athletic trainer for the Philadelphia Eagles pre-season camp, Cirque du Soleil, Warrior Senior Collegiate Lacrosse All-Star Game, the USA National Lacrosse Team Try-out Camp, NHL In-Line Hockey Tour, UMBRO Select College All Star Soccer Games, US Youth Soccer Association Region I and III Olympic Development Soccer teams, Amgen Tour of California, and the ESPN Summer X-Games. He has worked with the Los Angeles Riptide, Baltimore Bayhawks, Pittsburgh Crossfire, Washington Power professional lacrosse teams and interned with the Killington Mountain Ski and Safety Patrol.
